Wow, way to rain on my parade Still, I guess there's almost an accidental compliment on how Weaver looks in there, so that's some consolation In all seriousness though, I'll be the first to admit it ain't perfect, nor is it everything I wanted it to be. That said, I'm happy with it given the cirumstances. I'm glad those of you who voted for it liked it too

So now that this is finally over, what are we gonna do about putting together a download pack and trying to get it pimped? I'd feel bad just taking the top 5 or whatever, as some of the lower ranking maps are really high quality. On the other hand if we throw in everything that leads to the problem of including maps that, no offence meant, turned out pretty much unplayable. Thoughts?

Well that's the problem imho - it was done on looks instead of gameplay - I'd put weaver in a 'core mappack because it looks really nice and has some great atmosphere but it doesn't touch tobor in terms of gameplay and flow (no offence reno ;D).

Postoffice was also a really really good map and was much more original than tenements even though tenements had some great use of the common textures.

I would suggest put all the maps up to 5 in the map pack - that's nine maps and shouldn't be too hefty a download.

But again, it's a real shame that we didn't have an appointed set of judges that were required to give a good indepth analysis of all the maps because some were very good in terms of gameplay, others looked nice and others were just plain awful

I guess we should be able to put some final touches in the maps before it gets pimped, ie. I would like to fix some stuff in tenements, some of issues which Reno mentioned for example.

Hehe, none taken Rick, I do agree with you

Buddy: Problem is that we've already released (to differing degrees) the maps. I don't really like to re-release a level as it causes confusion, though I guess I could always call it dm_weaver_final or whatever. Would let me change the RPG for something more suitable like the magnum perhaps, seeing as people have complained that the RPG is too dominant in the level. Other than that I don't think there's too much I would change without having to severely gut the level (which I've no intention of doing). I suppose not too many people have downloaded it so far to be a big issue though.

I'd llike to delete the physics crate which is standing on the small wooden platform, since right underneath it is a large vphyics_clip brush, meaning if anybody tries to pick up the crate with the gravgun the crate will hit an invisible wall.

Beautiful, but not a great use of the available space IMO. I wouldn't want to play this as anything more than a 1v1, but in that scenario it could work pretty well. Lovely 3D skybox on all but one of the sides of the map, and tragically that is the side that needed it the most Obviously this leads to the disappearing into nothing edge looking pretty daft, but the overall impression of the map is still one of "wow". The ladders aren't particularly well done which is a shame given their importance in the layout of the map, but they are useable once you figure out how. Also didn't like the pink blob of light above the 2 chargers, but I guess the deadline removed the opportunity to tweak it and that is really the only visual issue besides the missing skybox section. Good level.

Yeah that's pretty much what I think about it I had problems with my internets for 2 or 3 weeks and steam wouldn't start in off-line mode. Then I had little to no time to properly tweak/test it. But I'm glad that the map didn't turn out totaly crappy

I'd definately fix the ladders bug and the 3d sky emptiness for the final map pack. Maybe we should give another week so everyone can tweak their maps and we can have a real horrorshow map pack ? This is mapcore's first mappack afterall

If you're going to put together a mappack and feel sorry for those maps who won't be included, atleast don't give any tears to me. My map is indeed-- ahem-- messed up quite extremely.

It was fun working on the map and I learned a few new things throughou the process so I'm happy in any case.

Sooo....anybody gonna make a call on this? It's been almost 3 weeks now, and is becoming a bit of a farse. I'm not really sure its mine or anybody else who entered's place to decide what makes the map pack; shouldn't that be down to mapcore "officials" since its gonna be representing this community?

Let this be a lesson learned that next time we decide to do a competition the rules and judging are worked out PRIOR to starting it officially

Anyways, we got official results as of the day voting stopped and weaver took it. I think we should simply pack up all the maps created into the map pack, even if they aren't ideal.

well ferret was all too eager to impose himself on the contest so perhaps he should be responsible for everything after it.

    etc

No, we should be able to fix the common issues they have.

I know that much, I was more asking about a map pack. People were talking about putting one together and then trying to get it mentioned in the Steam update news, which sounded like a good idea but now it seems to have lost its thunder.
