A map I am working on with Skybex. Although it uses the name for a map I was making before, this is completely new. Its still very wip, but moving along fairly quickly - just one more building needs to be worked on to reach first pass.

Rubble, smoke, damage and lots of decals still have to be added, and the water tower is out of place I think. The church textures will also be changed to something with more detail, and the sky looks better when in game, since the web compression has given it lots of contours.

in the second screen shot the center building the bottom is so bright but the shadow on the ground is so dark ... its not transitioning nicely you might wanna use a darker texture for the bottom of the building

despite that very nice looking keep it coming

Looks very nice indeed, but I agree that the watertower looks out of place. Maybe throw in a windmill or something like that instead.

I like what you've got going here... good visual vibe on the whole, and some interesting structures to look at with great height variation. Agreed that the watertower isn't the best fit, but otherwise looks like good progress so far.

quite nice i like the atmosphere and colours. could use a bit more vegetation and more decals i think. the red storefront looks out of place as well. you might want to retexture it?

good luck with finishing it up

    Thanks for the comments.

Warby - good idea. The light looks horrible there.

Insta - yes, water tower will go, and a more French one like this added.

    KungFuSquirrel - thanks

Sa74n - Yes, lots more vegetation, and loads of decals needed, along with displaced roofs and broken buildings. Shop might look a bit weird as well when next to a graveyard.

Lots of nice DoD maps being posted here

"Zutzdendorf" sounds German, is it a French town? Maybe somewhere in the Elsas...just curious

It looks nice, but i think the skybox texture is a bit out of place with the brightish lights.

A sky like that would imo have a bit of a darker country side beneath it.

You are right, the water tower does not fit in.

Mapping and brushwork are top quality as I would expect from you mate.

I'm not entirely sure I like the sky and likewise that the lighting currently matches it very well. Also I have never been a fan of maps with moody lighting. They tend to be far less popular than ones with high visibility. However, it's not really fair to judge these things without actually running around the map, and as you say the compression has def screwed with the appearance of the sky and its a WIP, just spooging out the first things that pop into my head.

One thing I do think is currently lacking from the map is a single distinguishing feature that uniquely identifies it at a glance. I am not sure what this would be, possibly a prominent building, a particular vehicle model featured throughout the map, a plane crashed into a burning building. Something along these lines that in a second will both identify your map and provide an unmistakable landmark by which players can orientate themselves. This kind of feature is for me the thing that makes for a truely memorable map.

Just my 2p though keep up the great work

Reminds me of Argentan. I like the colors, but is anyone else feeling that the color palette is getting a little old? The map looks like it is solidly put together, I hope the layout is to boot.

Very very nice, but what happened to

Any sign of releasing this one first?

Played an alpha of it and its excellent. Everyone pressure Baboon for a beta release. Its way too good to sit there unplayed

BioPulse - Yes, lighting needs a tweaking, or complete change. It does look better in game, but there is definitely something not right about it.

Mkz - Detail to be added!

JamesL - Completely fair points The unique buildings will hopefully come when we go through everything for a second time. The areas shown are the spawn, and spawn exits, so when the central area is done, a "special" feature can be thought about. The map is not that old yet, so we have just got the basics in at the moment.

von*ferret - Agree! Using stock material means the map looks like the usual stuff. I think that's why a different lighting set up has to be added, so that it at least looks a little bit different.

RA7 - I haven't touched de_tropea for a few months. Packrat doesn't seem to recognise all the stuff used. Its not near a final, but I would say it is definitely beta-worthy. There are no obvious playability issues. I should have released a beta a while back, just to get some valuable public testing. I was putting together a build to send to people to give me feedback, but lost motivation just at the wrong time. Grrr! I will try and work on it soon, and even though I am not happy with it, just release a beta. The constructive criticism will be worth it.
