Half-Life 2: Deathmatch 1024-unit Competition?

    Is it worth doing? 2

    1. Definately. (2) 100%
    2. Terrible idea. Go away. (0) 0%

Competition Deadline: April 30th! (for real)

So, the last competition was pretty successful (even though no actual map pack came of it) so I figured maybe do a Source engine competition but with a bit of a twist:

The play area must be contained within a 1024x1024 unit area of the grid.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.joeyadey.com/1024_comp.jpg]

That is, must be within one of the brown squares

    So here's a basic outline:

    - Play area must be contained within one 1024x1024 grid block

    - Stock Half-Life 2 Content only

    - Only original maps specifically made for this contest (no recycling)

    - Focus on proper Deathmatch gameplay, this is not a 'scene' contest, but make it as pretty as you want.

I thought this would work well, considering the map size is pretty much defined for you, it's pretty small so it's not a huge investment of time, plus with such a rigid limitation it's gonna require some creativity.

So, is it worth doing? Does anyone plan on participating? Or is it just a terrible idea?

If it's a yay, then maybe we can move on with an official thread like the last one?

Note: This is just the play area that is constrained to the 1024 grid block, if a sky brush or some other element creeps its way outside a bit it's not big deal. And things like a 3d sky obviously have to be placed else where.

But I think we should be able to put some custom content into it.

1024³ ?? its a little bit small maybe ? for two weeks a 2048³ contest was done, and this size was bit small but okay, enough for 12 players. but why not - you can count with me - i love those contests

2048 is pretty big though, that's about the size of a regular small DM map. This is sort of pushing that. More along the lines of the classic Quake 3 1v1 maps, or some of the smaller levels you'll find in Halo/Halo 2 multiplayer, where the map is basically centralized around one prime area.

An example, for those who might not have played Warlock:

Really tight, chaotic but simple level that's just basically circular gameplay.

1024 is a perfect size for a restraining contest.

    something like Rocket Arena

maybe I'm in - I will think about it btw. if so it will be my first Sourrce map so maybe I will not waste the "virginity" of that engine for that kind of map
