Well the thing is that the majority of people (I'm guessing) don't have HD sets in at least the UK, so having higher than standard definition wouldn't make a difference anyway as that resolution looks fine on CRT televisions. It's only once you've got an LCD or plasma television that it starts to look shit as the TV has to digitally upscale the image, very much like if you downloaded a small Windows Media Player movie and then tried to make it full screen (although TVs typically do it a bit better than that).

As far as I'm aware the CRT:LCD/Plasma ratio is very much in CRT's favour at the moment so while the latter is clearly the future, it'd be a huge financial waste to ship thousands of cables that'll never be used. We're talking millions of pounds/dollars/euros here.

I'm not saying it was necessarily a good thing to leave the £2-or-so cables out of each unit, but I am saying it's one aspect of cutting out stuff that might not be used (like the superior backwards compatibility) by a lot of people for reducing costs of each unit -- and that's an understandable strategy. Kind of comparable to Burger King giving every customer a 10p dip, even though many of them might not want or like it.

It's not a big deal to just pick up a cheap cable (avoid the official ones) for a few quid with the console; however, it should be made clear on the packaging or something that you need to do this if you want to enjoy true HD on your HD television.

Just as a side note, Microsoft did exactly the same thing with their core Xbox 360 configuration. It's no coincidence that the version with it included costs significantly more.

I went into Gamestation and GAME on the way back from Uni today, both had PS3's instock.Amazon and most major e-retailers I can see have them in stock.

I'm not a gambling man but I'd put money down on people not buying it rather than Sony miraculously delivering hundreds of thousands of units.

    You'd likely lose.

Sony delivered 1 million units of PS3 to PAL territories on launch day (360 launched with a quarter of this stock and no more supplies due before Xmas '06). Of these over 550,000 units have been sold through to consumers across the 3 days of launch weekend. In the UK £100 million of PS3 hardware has been sold making it the biggest selling console launch by a huge margin.

Resistance Fall of Man and Motorstorm took top chart position in every PAL market with Formula 1 close behind.

I'm not trying to fanboy it up here but please, keep an objective opinion about it and look at the numbers.

Personally I love the fact that there was more supply than demand. All those tossers on eBay who bought PS3s hoping to make a killing supplying to those who really wanted one but couldn't get one have found themselves selling at a loss. Bwahahahaha.

(Edit on re-reading this sounds a bit preachy, I don't mean to be I'm just a bit sick of the endless Sony hate that seems to be endlessly spread across every single gaming site the last 12 months).

I'm totally with you. Obviously I'm slightly biased since I actually bought a PS3, but overall I think the media and people in general are waaay outta control on the PS3 bashing. Sony has deserved a lot of it when their PR muppets act like children and they tear out hardware for different regions, but fact is that its a pretty decent console with some pretty good launch titles. I certainly haven't regretted buying it, Motorstorm online is probably some of the best fun I've had this console generation (At least when I'm winning ;D).

But you'd definitely still be insane to buy a PS3 before a 360 if you're getting it for the games though, gonna take a while for the PS3 to get into the kinda release gear Microsoft has going on.

Oh yeah, I bought a 40" Bravia yesterday (W2000, not the glass framed X2000), got it insanely cheap and the picture on this thing is unbelievable.

Now I just want my free Casino Royale on Blu-ray

And don't forget PS3(sony) which has lost all of its exclusives except for one, which is still in rumor of releasing on the 360.

You know I visit these boards a couple of times a day, and each time I read this and try to think of a reply. But, the sheer lunacy of the statement seems to create some kind of impenetrable casing around my brain, so I hit reply, foam at the mouth, and have to lie down in a darkened room until I feel better.

I got Virtual Fighter 5 today, it looks like a very generic fighting game for the Playstation 2. This had two obvious benefits: It helped enforce the idea of waiting to buy a Playstation 3 because I do have some kind of suppressed desire, and inspired me to load up Guilty Gear XX on my PSP.

    Heaven or Hell. Lets rock!

Yeah, seriously. I actually glanced at that post a couple of times while at work and couldn't even be bothered to respond.

The fact that you quite seriously used the term "Shit Station" is also condemningly lame, and akin to the childish terms like "Grey Station" and "Sega Sadturn" that platform-specific commercial games magazines used a decade ago, whose audiences non-coincidentally consisted largely of children.

    Very bad show.

Eurogamer recently spawned a lovely term for all the xbox fanboy - PS3 haters out there. They are terming them 'xbots'.

    Laughed my ass off *klunk*

    Anyways, back to Stalker

You guys are right you can't just out and out say its a piece of crap but it's just not worth the money right now... and I think all the stuff Sony's been doing lately (James you'll probably disagree ) ultimately leads to all the 'bashing' that goes on.. some warranted some not.

But like what's been said many times already here it's just not really worth it. I don't have a good tv by any stretch of the imagination (go crappy TV adapters!) I've played Resistance and it was a pretty decent game... nothing amazing or anything. Lighting of the levels confused me a bit but nothin else was good or bad really.

Getting kinda sorta on topic... the launches have been a bit lacking for sony comparatively and I hope they catch up in sales... but I don't think it's gonna happen if they don't change certain aspects that have been talked about before.

lol what about the nintendo fanboy/PS3 haters James? Nintendorks? Wiiniis?

Not to mention all that 10 year nonsense they were going on about (or still are). If they really are serious about that, it would explain the unremarkable beginning of the PS3 at least. Otherwise they seemed to think they could ride it out to the very end on the impulsiveness of their past consoles fan base. Which is just a tad naive I'd think.

For how much did you get it Maz? The cheapest I can find online after a quick search is like 1.8k D: !!

Motorstorm is pretty good I agree. At first I thought this looks nowhere as good as in the videos they released, but I guess it looks good enough. I don't know what I was expecting after all the marketing buzz around the PS3's technical power.

The game itself is great though, I'm not into racing games at all, but the tracks are great, very wide and open with multiple routes and levels. The "reversed boost" works great for me too, nice arcadish racer

About €2.100, which is half of the X2000 here. Also keep in mind that we have an absolute shitstorm of taxes n shit in Denmark. It's pretty much the same price you'd get an average Samsung for in the same size.

Now I just need some fancy setup to stream HD movies from the computer to the TV, hmmmm~

Got the same telly meself. I be interested in knowing what setup you use to playback HD stuff direct from your PC.

Keep meaning to grab a few things off teh nets for 'evaluating' but with my crappy 512k adsl connection it's just too painful to grab >gig torrents.

My problems right now is that my computer is exactly far enough away to not just connect it to the TV, plus that'd be via DVI so I'd have to get some cables over to the amp for sound as well.

Been considering getting a Mac Mini or a h@x3d Apple TV, but those seem like more extreme measures.

Hmmm, maybe getting a proper HDMI DVD player that take on most formats would work :G~
