    Fellow Mapcorians

What you are about to witness (except alot of spelling errors) are one of my many ideas thats been around my head for awhile.

I guess you all have seen the wonderful Bravia commecial with the bouncing balls and the fine "Heartbeats" tune.... if not, take a look --> http://%7boption%7d

I thought about making this in Source..well I thought someone should help me make this in source since I don't have the knowledge of how to model, code or even create maps....

The idea is pretty basic, make a map inspired by the one in the clip, model some diffrent colored balls, code them so they bounce, dublicate the balls to around 10.000 and film it.

So whats my part of this project you might ask? Well You can say that I'm of thoose guys who makes a webpage and then asking people to join thier mod, or you say im the creative guy who comes up with the ideas (It sounds better)

Anyone interested in this little "mod" or project? I need all the help I could get as you prolly understand if you managed to read all the text down to this.

I'd like to hear your comments on this.

custom texture are teh mine. Looks like this could come out really great though if this map will be created it should be used for a standard dod:s/cs:s map aswell ^^

Sounds like a cool idea, but its gonna be shit for all computers. The map would be simple, the code would be simple (basically just hl2dm) the models would be simple. The physics of the balls bouncing off walls, down stairs, down hills, on cars, off other odd shaped objects would be bell to calculate and thus, your pc may explode. That many physics props (10,000?) should not be possible.

The thing is that I just want to make movie out of it, so the only one who needs a power rig is the one who making the final movie, but maybe it is impossible with 10.000 balls in source like you said.....

Or you could slow down the physics speed down.

Aha now i know why you needed it converted Btw i saw the clip but i dont remember if there was a slowmo in it. But wouldn that be like cool to have in the project? Maybe slowmo with some tracking even? You know when theres several of one object following like a tail and fades away as it progress forward.

Your map can only have 1024 different entities in it (brush and point entities) before it refuses to be compiled. So one way to make it would be to have only 1 of those balls, be spawned 10,000 times first, then enabled.

Very cool idea though. I'd like to try making that concept map first, but I'd need that bouncing ball model

what about predoing the camera in hammer and just make the video a 100 times with 100 random ball spawns? in the end it would be just overlaying the 100 videos and have a video with 100*100 balls = 10.000 balls

It's the best way to make it smooth :)It might look nice so...

    GOOD LUCK

though one problem came to my mind: every ball would have just 1% oppacity then that may suck so:

i would do the whole thing once without balls in a textured level and the ball videos then in a complete white level with mat_fullbright 1 and then multiply the layers into it.
