I downloaded the E3 client of guild wars, i installed it, connected, ran around for 5 minutes, exit the game and never touched it since.

mmorpgs are time intensive and I didn't have so much time for gaming back then, so that was probably the reason why I didn't continue playing. No monthly fee is certainly an important step to attract more players to online games.

I tried the E3 playtest thing, it was alright, like a 3D Diablo, but it soon got boring. I require more immediate gratification and control from my games.

The developers are going to keep the servers up by releasing tonnes of mini-expansions you don't have to buy, of course you will have to buy them unless you like playing by yourself. Given that most monthly fee MMORPGs add new content all the time anyway, it’s not quite the sweet deal where the developers host a massive server for free.

I played the E3 demo and was hooked all the way until the test sadly ended.

Admittedly, I mostly played the PvP scenarios they had, instead of the quests. One of them was a tournament-style bracket that had various different scenarios, like King of the Hill, Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, and Assault/Defend variants. Each tier pitted you against other teams in the bracket and it got progressively more and more challenging. Extremely fun and I was surprised as to how balanced it all was and how well it scaled along with the regular dungeon-exploring mode. It was kind of like a fantasy MMORPG Team Fortress Classic. Really hectic.

I also like how they're handling the skill system so that even new or less experienced players have a chance to compete against some of the stronger ones. Definately looking into buying it later, but not too sure about all those expansions yet.

I played it for free (e3 trial) And if was very impressive!

Plenty of land and missions, but it was rather hard to upgrade your armor and weapons. Olso the item system was pretty strange. But i found the game superb anyways~

The Guild Wars World Preview Event takes place October 29 through 31, 2004. The clients only 62kb so its not a biggy to download.

62kb? The download client is only "62kb" big which downloads the hundreds of megs the game itself consists of right?

If the release isn't successful or the expansions don't sell it's going to crash and burn and put the developer into bankruptcy, that'll be fun to watch so I'm going to get WoW instead.
