anyone else think this is the funniest attempt to fake a screen shot ever ? ( by a professional studio that is)

the other screen shots look pretty cool actually :

    Awesome shop

Seriously, i've seen better parallax mapping with UE3, why does it look so wrong?

Oh. I thought that was just the wall's special effects being really shit or something, like how the paper fur looks weird at certain angles in Viva Piñata.

which distortion effect ? (we are talking filter > distortion > ... right ? ) you are not suggesting that this is an artifact of that cheap frame buffer motion blur that a lot of games use ?

The outdoor area is pasted behind the corridor or am I wrong?

Its funny how people photoshop things and then get discovered simply because they are so incredibly crappy at doing it. If youre going to photoshop something, do it right.

Check this out, this was a photo from Reuters, the big news aggency, of Beirut when it was attacked last year. They wanted to make the attack more dramatic than it really. Say hello to the clone stamp.

And then theyre suprised people can see its fake.

I believe that it easily could be a real screenshot just with some work-in-progress shaders and textures.

Your example there Hourences is pretty bad though:D

It wouldn't be so noticeable if the two faces were aligned (their texture that is...)

it was taken by a freelance journalist, not reuters. reuters bought the photo, along with thousands of others during a war. the photographer edited it because he wanted to make the attack look more drastic, not the big news agency. they werent surprised, they found out it was fake and removed hundreds of the photographer's photos

Doesnt matter who took the picture if Reuters decides to send it out into the world? It represents them from the moment they do.

there was a war going on with 1000s of pictures coming in a day, it got accepted accidentally. it may represent them, but it doesnt mean they have a bias, it means they had inadequate supervision of accepted pictures

    Page 3, figure 2a

I called it an instancing artifact (because yea, it does look exactly like a clone brush, although it seems more like a lot of planes arranged at different heights when you rotate around it) when I noticed it was happening to one of my textures in Sauerbraten. It's a lot less noticeable in Sauerbraten if you use smooth transitions between your high/low areas (eg: a gradient.)

If you look at figure 2b the shot has depth bias which largely reduces the instancing artifacts but causes the "parallax" effect to flatten out further from the camera.

For all I know that shot could be photoshopped, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was real.

Edit: And yeah, the texture alignment is gross.
