I'll second that! I had a hard time to understand your post to killertomato. For my self i haven't even looked at the screens yet, because im no mapper so i have a hard time to give good input. But eve if it is butt ugly it would be better to point out what you don't like and why, and above all maybe give some suggestions on how to make things better. And im not talking to every one in this thread many of you did delievered constructiv crit.

Someone who barely uses any props, I'd assume - whose maps are basically brushwork.

we could much better help you, when you tell us what this is actually supposed to be! which setting is this? i can see some crazy/nonsense brushes with some textures on them. some spinning thing and well i think thats it.

i resume: it's no dust level, it's no industrial setting, it's no southern village, it's no european/american/asian/australian/african city/village, it's no secret science station. so i might ask: WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!

Hessi has a good point. All the most successful maps have a strong and unique theme.

Whether this theme is realistic or not is kinda unimportant, it can work either way. de_corse for example, is a highly realistic map in a real world setting, whereas something like awp_monopoly or de_star are far from real world, but still have very strong themes of their own.

Try to develop an identity for your map, and then try to apply this as you lay down the brushwork, people will identify with, and as such enjoy your map more when they can pick up on exactly what it is at a first glance.

    killertomato

There, now I just have to ask you, killertomato, where did you find that pic? Also, i must disregard that comment about the picture being of myself. I chose it for its ugliness (and a strange fascination for ugly hats), and as for mma and marihuana, I've quit both. I'm a member of too many communities to keep them all updated, so I can't really see where you even got that one.

    ANYWAY!

    bla bla bla...

    Display More

lol, making a list like that is just childish

    ANYWAY!

i found that pic google'ing your emailadress because i wanted to validate your account. if someone dares to post such a piece of crap on this forum i want to know if he's serious or just trying to be funny.

apparently, you were pretty serious, wich, IMHO is more alarming. that marihuana must have messed your brains up real bad. good thing you quit though.

as for the old janitor; stop defending people. do you really want mapcore to be a place where talent gets raped? where people who are not yet capable of making good maps get to post their shit?

you know what? these topics make my vomit a little bit inside my mouth.. just practice a littlebit untill you have something worth posting. till that time you can post for help in the engine discussion forum and look at other maps fr inspiration..

Killertomato - Relax. If you don't like the level, then stop visiting this thread. Harsh words and elitist behavior isn't helping anyone.

i guess youre right and its not that im trying to be elitist, its just that im worried about this.

i know everybody has to begin somewhere to learn, but i also know there are other ways to start mapping without making other forums look bad. not that i have that much, but this feels like an not-ment insult against talent and skill..

'do you really want mapcore to be a place where talent gets raped? '

    'these topics make me vomit'

'there are other ways to start mapping without making other forums look bad.'

    'insult against talent and skill..'

How anyone could regard that at elitism is beyond me.

ok, so i acted like a dick.

but seriously, take another look at the screenshots..

i think that anyone with a cristal mind would decide to practice a bit further before posting a map like that on a forum like this.. how can we possibly post any feedback on thís?

and me acting like an elitist is, frankly, a compliment to the guys actually showing of something worth giving feedback to.

    elaboration:

beauty is in the eye of the beholder and creativity is a broad understanding. so if you want to objectivily want to say a map sucks or not, i guess youd have to look at the objective part: the skills a man has. thats not very hard to see because we all have the same undestanding of it since theres proof we can all see and all interprete the same way (the different elements of mapping as shown in screenshots).

im not saying that people who cant map very good shouldnt be posting here, but i do think that if you have a little to no skill, you should practise a little more before you show things like this to the public.

my first reaction was serious. i really thougt this was a joke and i really think we should keep this sort of jokes in eot, or at least outside of the LD section. i understand that wot was insulted but im surprised to read that he was surprised too! i mean, have sóme self-awareness man..

this is my last post in this topic. i was too rude to wot and yes, i acted like a dick. its just that this sort of things hurt my eyeballs. i guess friechamp was right: if this doesnt appeal to me, then theres no point in reacting to it. how strong the urge may be sometimes..

wot, succes with your leveldesign. hope you get to learn alot from these forums.

    im out

That was very big of you. But just to clarify, no i dont want talent to get raped, i want it to grow. The only way to make this happen is to give constructive critism not take a dump on people who have not yet learned. And yes why not let them post? Uts their only way to get feedback. If some one don't like he could say so and why whitout being rude. I bet the great mappers we have here wont suffer from this. They will still make awsome maps. Also i dont defend his work i havent even looked at the screens yet, its just the aproach im dissapointed at.
