Im sure HL2 will be an awesome game too. Way too many people just go totally berserk and say that they will never play it, even though thats obviously bullshit. Thing is that HL2 isnt really all that impressive anymore (by that I mean as impressive as it was at E3 03). But anyway, visually I find Doom 3 superior, but Im sure HL2 will have some more interesting and unique game design to counter this. And then HL2 also has some damn nice water ~

yeah well im not saying im never gonna play hl2, but doom 3 is graphically superior. though both engines have their advantages, hl2 being able to render long distances, and doom 3 being pwn with lighting

Oh pls. Gameplay surly wins over gfx. Thats why HL1 is still pupular today.

Doom3 is too "just run around and blast evry enemy in our way" based to get remembred as a great game. It worked 10 years ago, but not now.

Actually, I hear doom3 is quite the opposite from what the doom franchise began as.

i dont care for the graphics much if it plays well..but im still looking more forward to bloodlines than i am to HL2

hl2 does look nice, but im just suprised that the first screenshots we saw of HL2 imo looked a lot better than those ones..

i think the possibilities of hl2 are better than they look. Remember what hl1 looked like 6 years ago. Now compare it to what people can do with it now. Technology can be adapted and pushed. HL2 is the same way. People will hack up the engine, be clever with the editors, and create something that looked better than the original. Valve does some great things, but fresh minds (ie: us the modders) can improve it 10fold.

    + RD's post

agreed but your expect somethings to be in games today just be default...shadows being one of them...or maybe i have a shadow fetish but i just find the hole depth of things goes and then i get abit sad

hmm i think i'll play doom3 for awhile its one of those games that when your bored u can just mow down some monsters to pass the time

First off, I do actually think Half-life 2 looks superior. But that I think is due to personal preference. DOOM III has a rather plastic look to everything, it lives off it's great lighting and I don't think there's too much else too it when compared to games today. Though I could be wrong.

Now, I must say the world has seriously gone downhill. People get so distressed and say really extreme things like, "I won't play it now" which as Mazy said is utter crap. We know VALVe make games with excellent gameplay as well as thrilling atmostphere. They also make excellent platforms that can be built upon as Fetter said. I mean look at Half-Life compared to some of the mods today. Stuff can be asthetically changed. Half-Life 2 is going to rock, i'm behind it 100% even though it doesn't blow me away anymore like it did first E3 press release.

they are both different engines with different strengths . . . hl2 focuses on scriptability and versatility, doom focuses on classic hallway shooting with pretty lighting. Does this make one engine vastly superior to the other? Well I suppose it depends on what kind of game you are trying to make.

I'm surprised we are still having these arguments.

It doesn't surprise me, as we still have the ATI vs. NVidia arguement almost daily in the channel. *sigh*

    ewok....why do you put

    -ewok

after your posts....is the person logged in as ewok not supposed to be ewok....i could also go even further by saying even if someone did break into your account and decide to post as you, do you honestly think they would put

    -guy who stole ewoks account

i mean EVEN if your actual user name wasnt enough...then theres your sig which OBVIOUSLY makes everyone say "HEY THATFURRY THING IS EWOK" are you just so concieted that you have to mention that you are you at every possible instance. GOING EVEN FURTHER, one could argue that you have NO REASON to be proud to be ewok...what has ewok done...nothing...what are his hopes, dreams, aspirations for the future...THEY ARE VOID OF PURPOSE OR REASON....the proper ending for ANY POST made by you should be

-I DONT MATTER, MY OPINION DOESNT COUNT

and put this IN FRONT of your post, there by warning the casual forum goer of a pain that can only be equaled by gohnorea of the mouth. you sicken me and with every post you make a member of my family contracts genital herpes, you are a cancer on the community of mapcore and a whore in the eyes of every gentle, kind, loving and sexually arousable male.
