i posted my thoughts over at their forum after playing it on release night:

    http://www.pvkii.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2283

personally i think it has a lot of potential and is pretty damn good for such an early release

Looked great from what I saw.

Are there any experience-gaining ala natural selection planned/in it?

Like getting to be captain if playing as pirate, an even bigger knight with spikes 'n shit on his armor, and the viking could be well...a fat viking.

Yeah its a very polished first release, raises the bar for other mod teams

    *grumble*

I guess you already had the tried and tested format from PVK so thats half the battle won.

Well I tried playing with Skalg's tips, doesnt seem to make too much difference.

Vikings seem to run faster than you can back and combined with a charged up big fucking axe attack with a seemingly huge hit radius is getting annoying now.

I'm seeing the axe come down 3-5ft away from me ingame and dieing from it, could be lag but I've not seen a margin as big as that in any other Source Game.

Knights however, are not easy to kill, but fun and possible. Vikings just seem to be spamwhores Especially as everyone seems to join the Viking team now knowing their power!

I think I'd do a few things, reduce the range on the axes and tweak the damage down a bit. Or reduce the 2 weapon fire rate by about half or perhaps even make the player have to use both LMB and RMB, tap alternatly to attack? Could be interesting and the lack of a block could allow the damage to stay the same.

Also some little sound when your special meter is full, it usually fills up in manic combat and I always miss it, or dont have time to look up before I get pounced on by another 3 vikings

Edit: Was on island or whatever one it is you have to get the treasure chests and the Vikings won with 2 guys, they just got the chests slowly and then just went crazy around their ship, the knights could just about take it with 3-4 of them but with 4 pirates we couldnt do a thing

    That game is just GREAT

seriously, congrats to you and your team skjalg, you did a very nice work. It's just too fun to insult the other player while fighting a duel

the gameplay is really smooth, maps are nice thought

the only critic i'd have, is that my poor PC doesn't stand more than 5 players at the same time it brings down my fps, so it's really hard to play on servers with more than 15 players :/

Played it a bit and I had some fun. I really had to laugh when hearing some of the taunts, too funny. Really nice voice work, same for the Art.

Overall it was a bit too chaotic for my taste though, even for a Deathmatch fan like me. I played fort and it was just too crowded. I can see this being fun when you get to duel somebody, but most of the time I had an axe in my back once I got to challenge somebody (or an exploding barrel beneath my feet). Maybe I should try looking for servers with less people..

Anyway I'll play it a few more times, as I said, it's cool for a mindless quick play. Do you plan to add different classes as in the hl1 release?

Skjalg, i dunno if your opinion counts a lot in the pvk devteam , but i have a suggestion to make about the vikings gameplay in the next release, tell me what you think.

Infact, when playing as a viking you always find yourself running behind an ennemy without the possibility to get to close combat, and since axes are the only type of weapons the vikings got, i was thinking about including a sort of "superjump" move like in hl1, to get in close combat more quickly, not a jump that long tho . It will cost you some points of your rage gauge, so the player will have to think 3 times before using it if he wants to use the bersekerk hability.

I think that will add a bit of interest in the vikings gameplay which is, i must say, really basic for now

i would speed up the whole combat. weapons are too slow. its like "bang... wait...wait....wait... bang"

what i would prefer is: "bang bam buzz bang *miss* bang"

    lots of clicking!

the game art of the mod is really nice.

edit: 500th post i wanted to save it for something special :X

Theres none of that planned yet, or atleast not "in stone". But we're currently discussing alot of ideas to further the gameplay. Right now, we're focusing on more classes and more maps plus reducing the cost both client and serverside.

As far as we can tell, the different classes are pretty much as balanced as they can be with their different range of weapons, they'll be easier to balance once we get more classes in ofcourse. The special meter sound was under development a month ago, perhaps it got lost in the confusion when we released the mod... I'll probably be there in the next update

Thanks We are working on optimizing the maps more, and focusing hard on making some optimizing changes in the code so it'll run smoother. Akz (the coder) is my personal hero

Most people seem to share your thinking, and we've noticed that some servers have indeed lowered their player cap. Most maps are designed for a max of 18 players (that was the limit we put early on), but we forgot all about implenting it or putting it as default I think we'll see to this in the next release, but I'm not sure. Oh and, yes more classes will come (5 on each team).

heh my opinion counts as much as the rest, I think But you see, the Viking is already the best class (by a tad ), so making him better.. well Continue to play and have fun fellas

Here is my adventure in this very fun game:

Me and Oogi going pirates every round and charging into full rooms and blowing ourselves up

That in combination with the freaking fantastic graphics and sound was great fun. I do think that the melee combat feels a bit too frantic and laggy, though if I must find a weakness.
