Since Norway is not a EU country, I have to pay about 25% of customs. And that sucks balls, basically.

It's the same content in both printed and PDF, so it wouldn't be any other difference that on is on paper and the other is not. Right?

I should have bought the pdf :/

I consider myself to know a lot about level design despite my lack of releases, i worked on a lot of different engines since 1997 and i still learned a thing or two reading the exerts from your book on your website.

In particular the gameplay/layout part and comparing them to highly successful maps ive seen across different games, it was very accurate.

The lighting part especially caught my attention to concepts i never thought of.

That sucks but I cant help you directly since lulu handles the delivery. Contact them and ask whats up.

In most western countries the delivery is done through a package delivery firm like dhl/feddex/ups/etc. It could be that they just couldnt find your house and returned the sending.

If the delivery address was in the USA and possibly Canada too you should have gotten a tracking code so you can check where the hell it is.

I bought the PDF version, and I'm very happy with what I've read so far. I have a feeling that I'm going to learn a lot from this book .

    Thanks Hourences!

So want the book, but £26.39 is a bit over the top for me on a book. I take it its not going to be available in a shop anywhere? I have shedloads of vouchers

The .pdf is much better value but doesnt have the same shinyness as a book

I shall have to get it at somepoint though.

Edit: I lol'd at the super mega fast delivery option, £22 for book, £78 for delivery tommorow.

    Finally got the holy e-book

I've not read it thoroughly yet, but this sentence catched my attention :

    Quote

I've made so many Unreal Tournament levels that I don't need to go in-game anymore to find out how it plays.

Wow. I mean, I don't know how to come to this level of confidence since I made mistakes on every levels I made and I still do. Hopefully, playtesters are there to save the deal

im half way through the book now (usually too tired to read after work) and its got some really (really) good advices in there. you might be repeating yourself a bit much in the book but it definitely shows your points though. i wasnt too sure about the excaggerating bit. it really depends on the type of game and style you are shooting for. in any case its still better to excaggerate than not going far enough.

this book should be in every leveldesigners (amateur and professional) bookshelf.

I finally got my copy off Lulu, and I'll be expecting the delivery sometime this month at work. I'll also advise my boss to pick up some copies, since we're asking our artists to make levels too, they could certainly use expert advice.

I finished reading it a week ago or such and overall it was a really great book. Nothing new in it, but a totally perfect book for an introduction to level design.

At some points it seemed too much of a tutorial/personal comment from you and not as much as a book. You also repeated yourself quite a few times.

Another thing which annoyed me was some of the picture examples. You got like a totally fucked picture and then a nice one and then you have been so kind to tell me that the nice one is the best. I was often like "O RLY?". Less telling people about what is bad and more about good solutions please.

So, months after the release, what are your thoughts you mapcorians?

My biggest complain is that the "design" part is not very instructive since all the advices are not going deep into the map design process. I mean, once i've read this part, i still don't know how to design my routes, where should i connect them, how do i balance my chokepoint, where may i place my items and other power ups, and so on...

On single player part i came up with the same conclusions : how do i balance the difficulty, how do i increase the intensity, ...

I quite disappointed because i expected the book to teach me some things that other books like "game level design" from ed byrne or "level design for games" from paul co didn't, but i was wrong.
