The Hows And Whys of Level Design - Released!
-
-
mh can i buy it by sending cash? because i missed to wish it for christmas -.- and i don't have a paypal or visa account
-
Well let me know what you guys think of it, Im curious to see what the more experienced people think of it.
e freak, normally not but I can make an exception. Do you want to buy the ebook or the print?
-
I live in Wisconsin and I want to purchase the book. Friggin KFS has one and I dont
WHere can I get a copy? I need to read up on the CTF section for my side project at home. -
KFS has the pdf I sent him I think.
If you got a credit card or paypal check the link at the start of the thread, if not then Im sure I can order it for you.
The book aims at level design in general, so dont expect CTF to be covered extensively.

My copy arrived today
!Can't wait to have a good read of it. Good stuff once again Hourences
! -
I would order the paper version if possible and send the money per letter?
-
Fine by me but sending money through mail isnt exactly safe. Dont you have a regular bank account? An inter european money transfer through regular banks is free and pretty fast. Faster than a letter anyway.
-
I'll ask my Bank tomorrow about that.
-
Just got it today, was actually delivered to my door

Halway through already and I must say; "god damn I wish I could've read this 4 years ago instead of now, I already know most of this (well, half
), but that half was something I really wish I knew when I started out
Hope that made any sense, point is, I really hope this is the first of many (not only by you Hourences
). -
Got my printed copy for christmas, thanks mom (and hourences)!
Fun to see KFS and klein interviewed

-
mom tried to buy it, but she failed since she didn't know where to get it.
so she got me a book on gametexturing and a HUGE book about Unreal, the art of leveldesign insted

but I still think I'd like this book, I just need to do some math first.
-
Unreal the art of level design was pretty good. It was pretty much tutorials and not any theory, but it was still a great read when i was trying to learn the unreal engine.
i'll see what I can do about buying it online, I got other books I want to buy (like the art of interrogation)
-
Check out our interview with Hourences if you want to get a better impression

congratulations! I am very happy for you! Now you can brag about writing a damned book! Lucky bastard! I'll do my best to buy a copy - though it'll take me ages before I'm able to match the quality of work that you do sir, I'm sure I could learn a lot from the text.
-
Just got it delivered here for use at IO:)
-
Well, the book arrived and I've just finished reading it. I've got around 10 years experience, 7 of them as a professional, and I found it excellent! Very very useful for intermediate-to-veteran level designers to clarify the whole process of level design into a well organised, structured process.
I'm mainly self-taught and learned through reading around, experimenting and getting tutorials from people I know, so I have this whole jumbled mass of experience and knowledge. It was nice to be able to see it all written down in an organised way that made sense and was stimulating, because when I talk about level design myself it's usually just a discussion about a particular facet. Level design is so broad that although I have very comprehensive knowledge myself, it can be hard to pass it on. Now I own a good book that I can point people to

I think the areas of the book that I strongly agree with from experience and would like to re-iterate are the importance of thorough planning, the importance of balance and harmony between all the elements, and the most important thing of all - for the final product to be lots of fun to play!

I definately recommend checking it out

-
I'm really itching to get this book, but if I order it I'll end up paying a shitload of extra for customs and all that crap. Gunning for the PDF version atm
-
zeOx, if it comforts you, the print would be sent from spain and thus it would be an inter european delivery which is normally not subject to any extra taxes.
Although Im unsure about the situation with norway since its not a EU country.
Glad to hear IO got one

Very happy to hear that it is also received well by experienced people Cirian!
