I've been lurking this forum for awhile and I figured it was finally time to post.

This is my first map... so go easy.

Textures still need work and lighting needs ton.

I'm still working on some custom models for the inside as soon as I learn how to UV map.

This is going to be part of a larger scene once I'm done... like a townscape sort've.

My goal was to utilize as many textures and models that I could that were already done, so every thing is pretty rustic... but that is what I was originally aiming for.

I have a bunch of plans for this and I could go on forever on what I plan to do, but I'll just leave it at that.

I don't believe for a second that's your first map, but it's very decently made.

Keep the red bricks? It would spice the inside up a little.

The only thing I really like is the front with the red / yellow brick pillars >_> The other parts and especially the back look boring. Not bad though for a first timer

Use single light entity to illuminate the models (if you have any) for the spotlights and a little bit around it. Oh and make the awning / mini-roof part a proper awning / mini-roof part (it's just a cut off triangle now, isn't it?).

If it's just a scene might be worth not doing the insides at all.

Partly true, technically my second... but I never even bothered compiling it... it was total crap. I tried to recreate the place I am currently living at, it was pretty much just a crash course in hammer. I learned a lot, but the map itself wasn't pretty nor did it have any play value. Yeah the awning is just a cut off triangle. I added a few pillars do the remaining edges, I initially wanted to make it look like the garage and rear section was added on and not part of the original structure, but there was no good way to get the point across. Thanks for the tip.

I also tried the red bricks on the interior, but I need to mess around with it a bit more to get it to where I like it.

I still have a LOT to learn about lighting.

Ha! Yeah, after the SDK update my filepaths got messed up and I had to create a new file, and I was kinda frustrated at the time

Thanks for the comments so far.

The doors, windows and garage need frames of some sort. They have no depth to them atm.

Texture scheme on the outside pillars is nice.

My suggestion is mostly for the lighting.

On a real gas station, youd expect poeple mostly coming to gas up, so you should put in light specifically for that reason, around the gas tanks and to light up the way towards the inside to pay for it afterwards.

Also, one might need to get into the garage, so a bit more lights on it and a sign, either on top of the roof that is over the gat tanks or one that is seperate near the road would do.

Inside, dont use spotlight type lights, rather go for the "flood" lightning that comes from fluorescent lights.

Also, might i suggest a beer neon sign in the windows?

Well this map looks too artless and on some way really unattractive.

Correct and develop the lighting and repair the damn walls

Nice constructive comments there, nexus. Wanna give the man back his dignity, now?

Outside looks great. I think the gas station seems a little small. I would give it more pumps and bump up the size of the building. And as everyone else said, the inside wall could use those touch ups, and a bit more detail on the inside.

    Looking good. Keep it up!

Nexus is too gangsta for useful crits. He makes the best maps and we cannot compare! ;D
