That was scary D:
I dont get it...
There was someone behind me tho ![]()
Heard it a while ago, pretty creepy when you hear it with some really good headphones.
Woa cool ![]()
I've got 5.1 headphones, which, while not perfect, are pretty good. For that reason I wasn't exactly blown away by this. I'm currently using the headphones in stereo mode though, so as far as stereo headphones go, thats pretty damn good positional audio.
That was freaky. The sound was so real. It really did sound like a person was shaking a box of matches right behind you.
Woah, I seriously took a look behind me to check if there actually was someone there ![]()
So er... what was that.
I guess if you're wearing headphones it sounds like 5:1. But I guess listening to it on a 5:1 system spoilt it a bit.
Yes, the reason it's not used widely is because the effect literally only works with headphones and is difficult to produce; on stereo speakers it'll just sound dodgy, and on surround sound it obviously becomes redundant.
When I read about it ages ago I recall it having something to do with them recording it by placing the microphone in the ear of a life-size human head model, and then they perform the sound around this model; somehow putting the microphone there makes it sound like genuine 3D sound when later played back through headphones.
The catch is that the effect only works its best when your head, ear spacing, etc is roughly the same as the model they created it with. So while it's really awesome, it's no replacement for genuine surround sound and it takes a lot of extra work to produce, and as far as I'm aware would be impossible to use dynamically (ie: in games).
Wow that was awsome and kind of scary. Not as such as i got scared but a creepy feeling. When i read the posts and ppl talked about 5:1 and stuff i thought my headphones wont work but they did
I guess i have to read up some about their specs. And yeah that would be awsome in game, you would know where you'r enemies are.
Spellbinder said this was good, and I agree with him.
That was cool, I actually got a shivry down my neck when the sound was behind my ear. Very neato stuff.
Has anybody tried the Creative CMSS-3D feature of the new X-Fi cards? I've read in reviews that it does a very good job of creating 3D sound spaces with just stereo headphones (to the point that it is more effective than actual 5.1 headphones), but I've not tried it myself. Thinking of picking up one of those new X-Fi Gamer Fatal1ty cards for around £100 (the full Fatal1ty FPS model doesn't really seem to offer many benefits for an extra £40) you see.
wow this works better than my 5.1 surround does at home ![]()
wth... ![]()
get out of here rob! ![]()
awesome stuff at one point it sounded like he was going after my butt with the shaking matches
