Hey Just joined because I was looking through your guys work and you guys seemed to post good crits.. Been mapping for about a year with breaks taken every month for about a month so Im still pretty new..

My map is for the Half-Life Source Modifcation Hostile Intent:Phoenix Rising

    http://%7boption%7d

Still very WIP just fine tuning brushwork and what not.

Still fumbling with displacements and alpha blending, No reference pics btw I just map what I envision..

And those are definately not the textures I will be using I just used them instead of devtextures

AndI am not asian just made my name from an asian game I played

    Thanks ahead of time

That brushwork for the arches is nice, but really do yourself and the engine a favor and make that a model instead.

atleast make them func detail if you havent already (just select the whole arch and tie to entity, press ctrl-t i think).

besides that, its a very common first map, you havent made that many mistakes tho, so its a nice start

I already did tie them to func_details btw

    *edit*

heres something I made a while back btw just to give you a feel of how I do things

humm I don't know, maybe you should use reference images ? That does not looks like africa at all. (check this out http://www.webshots.com/search?query=so ... romeheader )

Besides that, the "resist" stencil is flipped horizontally. Open the entity options and change "U end" to 2, that should fix it.

Its not an exact replica of somalia just a name of what I was making.. but thank you very much for the ref pics.

Also where is the "U end" and the "resist" for entities? I briefly scanned over things and did not find anything with such name

    Thanks for the help too.

by 'resist' he means that graffiti you have on the wall in your second shot. Go to its options there should be a "U End" and make that 2.

Also for prop making tutorials Generalvivi has made some nice ones over at http://www.iwannamap.com in the tutorials section.

I'm not gonna lie, the quality is so-so. I however find it cool that HI is being remade as a sourcemod, probably one of the best HLmods out there refered to as a tactical police simulator, more like raven shield, less CS.
