new iTunes and iPods

    if i ever rip music, i usually use wmp, it does it just fine, names them properly, puts them in the right folder where i tell it to and it plays the music while ripping. other than that, wmp can lick my balls. i find that music match jukebox is the best for organizing music, its just great, if you have a subscription it will go out and label everything correctly for you with album ary and stuff, and you can adjust the tags for your songs with a whole lot of control for mass tagging and such. i dont really listen to any new music so ive got everything neat and organized in folders where i like it, from there on i just use winamp, its simple and works, so i dont fuck with it. i still find itunes too intrusive and annoying and stuff like that, not to mention for the past 4 versions havent wanted to install. the only thing i ever use itunes for is to listen to 30 second clips of songs, and that's only if last.fm doesn't have them

    I am agreeing with Fletch 100% on this. I used winamp for the longest time and thought itunes was "stupid" just because I was afraid of change. But as I began to use Itunes more and more, the more I loved it. Have all your mp3s in a library (I have a really massive collection) and being able to find certain songs without having to dig through layer upon layer of folders is really great.

    I use EAC to rip my CDs, mainly since I like the quality it yields and haven't had a problem with it in many years.

    Thats something you can do with Winamp too though. I love their filtering system and way of displaying your library - makes it so simple to hunt down songs, albums, or bands from a huge list.

    I'm sure I could get into iTunes, and maybe I will at some point as I do need a new mp3 player and one of the new nano's might fit the bill, but for now Winamp does everything I need really well.

    iTunes was really the only choice once I saw how easy it was to use the iPod. I think it is the combination of iPod + iTunes that is superior to most other solutions for [software] + [mobile mp3 device]. Now that iPod does video and games and you can get 30 or 60 or 80 whatever gigs of mobile storage, it's even betterer...rer.

    Mojo, does iTunes 7 allow you to play DVDs in your drive? The thing I HATE about XP and WMP is that you can't play DVDs directly without a 3rd party DVD codec and etc etc....i'm sure savvy people have free hacks or whatever, but I installed a non free one and WMP still can't play DVDs...sheesh.

    I used to have the old 40gb Brick iPods, but that broke and I sold its husk to a friend of mine for £50. Then I got a 30gb Video iPod, but to this day I haven't watched a single video on it, it was never an intention, they just don’t see the older models anymore. However, I have an hour bus journey everyday and so this topic is relevant to my interests.

    There seems to be a lot of not-so-subtle "lawl iPods" in this thread. I don't know what I'd do without my iPod, except not listen to music and worry why my replacement isn't here yet. I've also taken a liking to iTunes even though I hated it at first, mainly because it sorts everything without any hassle at all so I can replicate my collection at home and work -- and I can use it to transfer between home and work as well. It's all very convenient.

    Essentially this guy thinks Zune is destined to fail, mainly because of the DRM issues and the crippling of the WiFi feature which was supposed to be the iPod killing feature.

    Meanwhile, I don't feel the branding campaign for Zune has been very good. Compare to the 360 launch...everyone in gaming was talking about it. Who is talking about the Zune? How much mainstream press or advertising do you see? Yeah i saw some posters for the 11/14/06 launch date, but I think the Wii and PS3 launches alone will drown them out. Sure, Zune is not the same market as PS3 or Wii, but I just don't think it has enough appeal to allow its ads and PR to cut through the clutter this holiday.

    Further, is there ANY incentive for a happy iPod/iTunes user like myself to convert?
