any chance you're running the sdk tools from shortcuts? if so, try launching them from within steam. After the initial launch, you could go back to using the shortcuts
tell us which applications requre this dll or which executables claim missing this file.
btw: if you need a working vtf2tga executeable i copied an old one on my computer from my second computer which had and old version of the sdk
vtf2tga runs without steam running. so if there is any need -> shout ![]()

well i need my vconfig to work and it wont because it needs steam.dll and i can't access my mod from regular sdk window so im in a pickle and there are many many more things in the sourcesdk folder that require this also that i need.
and no thanks hessi i have a photoshop plug-in that allows me to open vtf files in photoshop
and then save them out again. it does wonders ![]()

Shortcuts don't work anymore. If you can't access it by lauching the SDK, you can go into the sourcesdk/bin folder and run it from there, it should work.
Get someone to send you the missing .dll. That's what I do when my steam/SDK is fucking up.

Just so you know, about the VTFs, the file sizes turn out a bit bigger when compiled with the VTF plugin.
i dont think so teddy. its still the modified dds file format with DXT file types (actually some modded types, if i remember nem's comments on that correctly).
there are some things that make me prefer the vtex.exe instead of the photoshop plugin:
1. full control
2. dont need to run photoshop to compile a vtf
3. is there any way to save animated vtf files from photoshop? i dont think so! ![]()
vtex.exe is just more "pr0" ![]()
can someone send me a steam.dll then?
sourcesdk/bin/GameConfig.txt
Notepad hax time.

huh?
...
If you open the file it should be pretty obvious what to do.
*raises hand*
me too!
Hammer never works from a shortcut for me, I've tried all the fixes on the wiki and none work for me.
I'll post the target of my own shortcut later when I get home. Maybe that can do the trick.
Actually one thing I remember is that you need to set the same -friendsbeta whatever suffix to any shortcut if you're running Steam with it
If you're making a mod, you need to change your paths in Hammer for the shortcut to work, I think. Mine works nicely now.
My shortcut:
D:\Games\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 211 -runhammer
Example:
Game executable dir:
$SteamUserDir\source sdk base
Game directory:
$SteamDir\SteamApps\SourceMods\FortressForever
Game executable:
$SteamUserDir\source sdk base\hl2.exe
Before I changed the game executable dir it wouldn't load any mod content when the shortcut was used. I'd have HL2 assets but no mod assets.
This is what I have:
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 211 -runhammer
maybe i should just reinstall steam . i did lots of stuff so far like reinstalling source sdk and changing out some other files but everything is still being really weird . Sigh. ill just back everything up do it.
