WOW i got to watch someone play the SP game today for about 10 minutes and this will be my next RTS game for sure. It's a GOTY on PC for sure, hands down. MP beta has been out a while now, but the SP game kicks serious ass. It actually innovates the RTS genre pretty well and goes way beyond Dawn of War which I still think was a great game.

    EDIT:

Now that it's public, PC Gamer gave it a 96%.

yes there was a lot of hubbub about it last May/E3 (2005) etc...but damn, it has come so far since them and is now totally sick.

I got to play it at Quakecon. A lot more than I expected. Of course, I'm still stuck on the command and conquer way of doing things...

Yeah, it completely owns. I absolutely love the beta. I've been playing the closed for about a month (FilePlanet subscription FTW! ) and I've had an absolute blast. It's always a different game, not a single battle plays the same way and that's what I love about it. The destructibale environments just add so much to it. I agree Izuno, GOTY.

True, thougth I think CoH is going to be very highly critically received. Wonder how gamers will react.

I wasn't really very interested in it since I've had a falling out with RTS games over the last couple of years. But after trying the demo I'm totally on for it, since they actually got some pretty impressive gameplay with cover mechanics that actually work, and just some really tight and slick flow in the way your squad responds.

Also it looks totally insane. I played it on my new work computer on the absolute max settings and it just looks breathtaking, especially their explosions. Mmmmm.

One thing bothers me about this game. The soldiers seem to be able to walk faster than bullets. Look at them storming omaha beach.... ridiculous.

    Indeed.

WOW, games for Windows, are they rare?!

it's something Microsoft has been pushing on publishers...trying to wheel and deal to help brand "Games for Windows". Microsoft started pushing that idea hard back in 2004, but it didn't really get good traction. Now we are starting to see PC games for MS Windows come out with new packaging like this.

Not sure if this is the only package or not CoH...I am pretty sure there will be a collectors edition package, probably in an interesting tin or something. I kinda think the GfW packaging is ugly, but whatever.

Really does look rather ugly doesn't it? Looks too bubbly, clean, and executive at the top of a box like that - not like an entertainment product at all.

It makes it look like a budget title. If I hadn't ever heard of CoH, I would simply walk by it in a display without even noticing.

edit: Oh wait no, it has a relic logo on it. After playing Homeworld and Dawn of War I'd definately go for that.

I agree. I think in the long run if all windows titles had this kind of standard packaging (making it similar in packaging standards for console games like 360, Xbox, PS2 etc) then we would get used to it and ignore it.

But in the beginning, it sure does look just "off".

For CoH specifically, I don't know if all of the "regular" pc boxes on sale in stores next month will look like this or if only a % of units will be this way. We'll see.
