    Looks fun

It's been two years since Valve put something out that I was mildly interested in

This ships with Episode Two right? Either way I'm hooked, I love the way the portals can be used and it looks so fun. Will this be modable...? (at least custom maps or such) I hope so.

The ceramic white on the portal gun and sentries is sexy.

It's a neat tech demo, but i want to see what they're real level and game design is going to look like. I do hope it has multiplayer though. Imagine the fun of diving through a wall and popping out from the ceiling above somebody chasing you.

Okay, they combined HL2 and Prey, so what? it may be fun but still, it is HL2:Prey

Yeah, because all game development can be summed up with simple X/Y combinations.

I'm kind of finding it hard to believe that you seriously just said that csharp.

Prey has a nice visual effect with portals, but other than that they are pretty much functionally the same as the ones in Quake 3.

What the Narbacular Drop guys and Valve have done is create a whole new type of game around portals. Calling Portal, Hl2:Prey is pretty dumb to be honest.

edit: and oh ya, PORTAL LOOKS TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME!!!

Makes you think that maybe the portal could be used a few different ways in MP...like maybe there is a mode where you always have it and perhaps it is the only weapon...or a mode with normal deathmatch and you pick up a portal weapon and it is only good for a certain # of portals or time limit. Lots of possibilities need to be explored.

I'm just having all kinds of fun thinking of ways to use it in MP. Fire a portal at somebody's feet and send them screaming across the level. Trap somebody in an infinite portal loop and blast them away as they helplessly fall from ceiling to floor over and over again. And what happens when you shoot a portal directly at somebody? Do they end up floating in time with Mr Peabody?

Imagine Portal CTF. Portaling with the flag could result in an auto-drop (like UT), but you could still do some massive portal invasion into the opponent's base. Some guy is running across the birdge with the flag and you toss a portal right under his feet, making him drop the flag as he fall helplessly back into his own base. You could also add a portal-destroyer gun for defensive purposes.

I like concepts like this where the initial mod may not be that fun to play, but the sandbox nature of the feature could lead to some really cool stuff down the road.

    Indeed.

It's like calling gmod a jbmod ripoff, even though the roots of that gameplay began before jbmod.

Also, saying only game X can have a usage of Y feature, it reminds me of patent whores. It slows down innovation.

This is the new hottest thing among hot things to have hit the fan. Everyone at work is kicking themselves in the nuts it's so brilliantly genius. There could finally be a very FUN game to come out this year.
