It might be Prey as fuck, but let's face it — it looks fun.

TF2 video should be up for grabs soon. xD

Yeah, my first reaction was "what a fucking rip-off" but they're certainly expanding on the idea considerably.

So, is this just a new technology they're going to impliment into source through other games, probably EP2, or is it going to be a standalone product?

Looks awesome. You could potentially make some really creative maps for it, either focusing on logic, creativity or movement / aim skills.

I think the guys who went to the VDC mentioned that this was originally developed by some uni students who Valve picked up, but I might be mistaken. The presentation videos finally arrived in the office yesterday so I'll maybe take a look and find out.

Either way, it looks cool. Some really clever use of the portals shown there - love the fact your velocity is carried through so you can use your dropping speed as a launch speed

    Awesome!

    High res video (1280): http://xboxyde.com/news_3186_en.html

You can see a depth of field effect on the gun:

Looks alot more interesting that what Prey did. I'll admit that Prey had some really impressive portal tech, but the way they used it in general was really boring, this looks way more creative~

    Good shit~

to be fair, it might have been inspired by the old version of Prey from the 90s, but these guys seemed to have had a functional prototype of this sort of thing before the resurrected version was announced.

looks really crazy. My brain is melting already.

Maybe a little, but Prey does have more going for it than just portals, so it's not too big a one up.

Well, I think the tech is one thing, but given past Valve games, they will likely come up with some very innovative gameplay based on that tech. Prey has good, fun gameplay, but not revolutionary. I think Valve could show us some revolutionary puzzle/combat ideas with that...but it all depends on what they do with it.
