About a week ago I found my father's old Canon AE-1 SLR. He bought it about 25 years ago, but it looks to be in very good shape. Although it isn’t' digital, I think it may be a good camera to step my foot into the photography world. Any suggestions on where to start? Here is a picture of it...

I'm going to Brazil in 4 days, so I'll be sure to take some pictures!

Advice to start: Go buy a roll of Ilford HP5 400 film.

Then trust your light meter, because it really does work. I never wanted to trust it... but it's all you've got with film

    Final advice: RTFM.

Tip: carefully read the manual! Im not a real manual reader but with these things it has helped me many times!

Also, try to get used to all given tools on the camera, like the diafragma, lens etc. I now automaticly adjust all things when I want to shoot.

A friend of mine is a proffesional photographer and he developed a sort of sense for lighting. He doesn't need a lightmeter and knows what values to use by looking with his bare eyes!

Experiment alot with closetime (the best translation i can come up with), diafragma and other stuff!

Have enough money to develop pictures and hold in account it takes more time and effort.

    Thats my 2 cents..
