We're taking a trip down memory lane! Anyone interested in working on a multiplayer Quake2 mod for the hell of it? We're looking for a few dedicated individuals to donate some time to help generate some maps for us.

The game is team multiplayer with a CTF flavor and even a hint of RTS/FPS (but it's such a small hint, more like a dash, really). If you're interested, PM me or hit me up on AIM: Punkposteh

I'll supply you with a heaping helping of textures at your request and then we can all play this fun little mod together like a good group of friends should, with shotguns and nail grenades.

The mod's name is "Infrared" although there isn't any infrared in it. It's a mockery-mod that started out of a late night conversation about how modding has gone beyond the skill and time limits of your average modder these days. So we sat down, churned out a weapon list, some gameplay ideas and thus was Infrared devised.

16 players, 8 per team, and one Commandante per team. The Commandante is the exact same as other players (referred to as Soldiers) except that he can drop a Dispenser. That Dispenser allows players to use "Experience" points to buy new and different weaponry. You collect "Experience" points by collecting the gibs of your fallen foes. Everyone gibs upon death, regardless of how it happens.

Oh and did I mention explodium? There's explodium in the game. It's what you're trying to steal from the other team. Get the explodium, bring it home to your team's base and you get a point. Hooray!

Also your main gun can be dropped (but not picked up) at any time as a turret. It'll fire whatever you had added to it at the time, so drop it carefully.

    List of weapons so far:

    Knife: A knife. Hooray!

    Pistol: A pistol. Hooray!

    Generic Rifle Gun: Semi-automatic rifle.

Rifle Gun w/ Rubber Bullets add-on: Rubber Bullets do no damage but they push the enemy around the map and make it a generaly hell to get from point A to point B in a straight line. The turret form can be a hilarious means of defending your base from explodium thieves.

    Rifle Gun w/ Machine-gun add-on: Your typical lead-spitting machinegun.

Rifle Gun w/ Shotgun add-on: Makes a big explosion of pellets in front of the player. Very short firing distance but devestating up close.

Rifle Gun w/ Flak add-on: Semi-automatic that fires a large shell that explodes into shrapnel upon impact with anything. Great for clearing bunkers.

Rifle Gun w/ Sniper Scope add-on: Slow-firing, zoomable weapon that deals out one-hit kills. The turret version is very slow firing but good at killing troublesome thieves.

Rifle Gun w/ Proximity Mine add-on: Fires little mines wherever you want them. They'll stick there and emit a little whine when an enemy walks near, then if they get closer, BOOM. The turret for this oughta be hilarious.

Rifle Gun w/ Drunk Missile add-on: Fires a few rockets along an unsure path towards the enemy. Big time damage, big time fun. Do not use in enclosed space.

Is it robots vs. aliens? With mutations that turn u into human?

And you go shopping for more RTS in the FPS game?

Speaking of which, does anybody know how to install q2 using these opensource/GNU files? Or am I going to have to acquire this in other ways?

    Blasphemy!

The opens source stuff doesn't include the game's assets. Just go pick up a bargin bin copy, if you can find one. It is worth owning.

edit: Why no railgun postman? (I'd prefer it to a sniper rifle)

edit2: For some more wholesome RTS goodness®, can the dispensers also sell speed and armor upgrades?

Oh, and if your gonna call it esplodium, there should be some mechanic or feature that allows you to esplode stuff with it

Well the community isn't as strong as Half-Life but there are still a lot of people working on stuff especially over at RUST.

Sounds good Posty, made even better than the fact that Q2 is OS now

Imagine if HL1 went OS... I'd be creaming myself

Oh and people not having Q2.. tsk, some people will be saying they've never played Half-Life next..
