All hail the Valve

What Phatsniper said. We've had this discussion plenty of times before and almost everyone agrees.
Sorry D3.

I don't know fellas - it seems valve isn't taking the modders as seriously as they should be.
and I'm still pissed DOD:S was released with two classes missing... will that game ever see those two classes return? I wouldn't bet the farm. That was just lazy.
-
-
Well, for starters there will be no Half Life 3.
EDIT:
I just have a funny feeling that valve is taking a trip down the road of self glorification - and we'll be taking the back seat.
-
Huh? What two classes are missing in DOD:S? I seriously can't remember. It's a good mod, though.
As for no HL3, what are you basing that on? Gabe said to 1up a few days ago that Valve will almost certainly return to a full length game at some point in the future, but for the moment their team is treating the episodic stuff with all the seriousness/focus that they'd ordinarily devote to a full title.
Funny feelings are all well and good, but Valve have consistently proven themselves over and over again, with Episode One being no apparent exception. I'm not sure where people are finding stuff to dig at Valve with, but they're sure reaching hard. As far as developer quality goes, Valve is right up there.

No Half Life 3. Also, Gabe is a dolt.

Valve havn't done an SDK update in months, if not a year. We need the backend code for all there new stuff like HDR.
what are you talking about, i'm pretty sure they broke the sdk just last week
-
There is a reason they didn't call it HL3:episode 1 and that is so they can play it safe. If the episodes are a proven success, they might continue down that path and we may never see an entire full-length HL3. If doesn't work out so hot (i.e. they finnish up after a single arc) then we will see a real HL3.

I lost the entire first 6 months of my work except for the first (and most terrible) room I did in one fell swoop... and not just in one map.
Oof. -
You might be taking it a bit too literally, mabufo. As we've both agreed upon, Valve are currently counting the episodes as a collective game in their own right, but that's not to say there won't be a full length Half-Life game in the future. Would you call that Half-Life 3 if it came to be? I'd be inclined to, and so would Valve I'd imagine, regardless of what they say now!
Of course, the episodes could be a flying success (can't judge off of just one) and become Valve's future standard, assuming the players like it just as much as the developers. Who knows. No need to chastise them for it, though — they're just experimenting with game formatting.
-
I don;t like it when they experiement with my wallet though, you understand?
-
It's not a problem if you get your money's worth. I've thought so with every Valve purchase I've made thus far, and I know that many others share that opinion.
Not everyone can be pleased, of course.

I'm not sure Adrian Shepard would have the same effect as he once did. I'm curious what you think would be a good opfor style expansion for the game. Being a combine would be strange because they're just zombie'd little prune lookin' dudes who can't talk so much.
I got the impression Shepard is going to show up in one of these mini-episodes-for-HL2/HL3, at least. I'm not sure how, since IIRC you've no idea what Shepard looks like, but when they said "some old faces," there isn't actually many to choose from.
Ofc he wouldn't work as a playable character. Opposing Force got most of its cool from you playing "the bad guy," even though five seconds into the game you're rather pally with the scientists.
-
What about Dr.Rosenberg?
And theres also those other two from blue shift Simmons and Walter.
Well actually they would only be familiar to Barney, unless Gordon maybe met them before the shit hit the fan at black mesa.

-
Well, If the Gman lost control of gordon, perhaps it could be safe to say he lost control of shepard, too. I agree, be nice to see him in the resistance.
