The Halo 3 and MGS4 trailers are pretty much next to each other yeah, but Halo's did have a much cooler cinematic scope.

Regarding it not being ingame, yeah it sucks, but I've come to terms with the fact that the game trailers of E3 are now more about the feel and style of the game, rather than it actually being ingame stuff (Although the actually impressive ones are obviously the ones where you can see its the ingame graphics, just in a cutscene form)

    c) have a ridiculously unbalanced laser sword in DM play

To be fair, it can be turned off. Its really no different then instagib weapons in other games.

Infact it reminds me of the one hit kill bashes in CoD. Wich are hard to pull off without getting a face full of smg rounds.

Well, if at a higher difficulty level the AI reacts differently and is self perserving and challenges you even further then...Yes, it does improve a game. It's just that generally games opt for simply increasing hit points/accuracy on enemies.

I call bullshit on the ai reacting differently. I didn't notice any sort of change in the AI when I played it on the hard game mode.

AI doesn't make a game either. My vote goes to the story on that one. Halo, of course - loses out on that one. Why? It was boring, bland, and generally unappealing.

Halo is a MASS MARKET brand now. It's positioned as "the everything shooter to all console gamers: hardcore, casual shooter gamer or inbetween."

I'm sure it will be an amazing PRODUCT. As for a GAME...my expectations are lower.

Damn...we hate everything...why are we so jaded?

While Halo's story may not have made a bestselling book, it is vastly more refined than most action games. Fair enough if you don't like Halo, but if you didn't like it due to its story being "boring, bland, and generally unappealing", I can't think of that many action games you would like.

That's the problem though, isn't it?

    I like ones with endings.

Ooof! Obivous cheap shot. The Halo games are very good though, just not the second coming as many seem to think. And their multiplayer is pish.

Halo 3 will be a good 'un, make no mistake.

We next met with Marcus Lehto, Bungie's art director, who filled us in on the technology as he gave us a fly through of the locations in the trailer. The crater seen in the trailer is three miles across, and it's all rendered in real geometry. Halo 3 has a new global lighting system that now lights everything uniquely from the same source, which explains just how that setting sun looked that good as it illuminated everything in the trailer. Halo 2, on the other hand, used a lighting system that lit everything separately. Meanwhile, parallax mapping is able to give depth to structures in the distance, such as the clouds above the crater. A new particle system offers different levels of light diffusion to take the quality of the atmosphere into account, and that makes for different layers of light. The demo shifted away from the crater to the part of the level you see the Master Chief walking in from. He was controllable, which means that the trailer indicates just how good the game will look. Lehto was able to zoom in on the Master Chief with the camera, and you could see the many different ways light reflected objects onto him. For example, you could see light reflect off the ground and onto his armor. A new materials system shows the difference between his armor and the rubber undersuit. It's so detailed that if you bring the camera close to the Master Chief's visor, you see everything in front of him reflected in it, right down to the ammo counter in his rifle.

can't help but wonder if that's an error on the part of the writer - I imagine Bungie would be referring to the big-ass building coming out of the ground when they refer to 'structures,' not clouds. meh?

But yeah, cool to get more confirmation it's at least the real technology.
