    BST FCKN EVR.

They did exactly what they had to, and it looks great. Showing of people actually using it and going straight to the games, no stupid tech specs and crap in the begining like Sony.

Also by far the coolest set and location for a conference to date~

    Wii<3~

I was extremely impressed by the Wii controller the first time I actually played with it at work, on Rayman 4. Red Steel also seems to be a very enjoyable experience

Nintendo knows how to have a good conference. The Wii is everything they promised and more (the speaker in the contoller) Now you may not think thats a big deal, but think about it- When you shoot a gun in Red Steel you hear it right right in your hand like your actually shooting a gun. Neat stuff.

Yeah I heard that, too. I haven't heard of a bill-of-materials for components being floated around at the investment banks yet, but given there is no HD capabilities and the processing power isn't ubertastic, I don't see anything that will drive the hardware cost up a lot.

I'm guessin $199 is probably the sweet spot, especially if Nintendo wants to convince parents to buy for the kiddies. I'm also thinking Nintendo won't do a $149 version, $199 version and $249 version or other crap that MSFT/SONY seems to do with the different versions of their nextgen consoles. I sort of feel like Nintendo is taking an "all inclusive" brand feel so that everyone can enjoy the same stuff at launch and there is no consumer confusion around which version to buy. Perhaps there will be software bundles with different pricing, but I'm hoping for one version of the console and only one. (besides different colors!)

Nintendo said it wasn't planning on losing money with each hardware sale, unlike with the 360 or PS3. That said, $199 might be a break even point and Nintendo may actually be planning on having strong content sales and strong console availability at launch to drive the bulk of the profit. This would include both new Wii games and for-purchase downloadable games like SNES, N64, Genesis etc games.

It's too early to tell how Nintendo's strategy will pan out exactly, but all signs point to them banking on having great content at launch, rather than just being some kind of expensive prestige item this holiday with artificually deflated production to drive up hype for a console that only has a handful of good content at launch but nothing really that new (Microsoft and Sony, I'm looking at you!...though Sony can still suprise me )

That was a brilliant presentation, and I was very impressed with how much launch material they seem to be building up. It looks like Nintendo are focusing on games more than ever, and this in reflected in basically every aspect: the controls, the sheer variety of games, and of course the inclusion of classic Nintendo IP and new IP.

The name aside (although it's not so bad now that we've moved on a week or so), Nintendo seem to be getting almost every aspect of this console right. The gaming community seems very accepting of it, and I just feel totally enthused about it; I can't say the same about the PS3 at all.

It'll be interesting to see how their plans to get into the non-gamer and lapsed gamer market pan out. I mean, there are a lot of people out there who simply aren't part of the gaming culture that Microsoft and Sony seem intent on fighting over; if Nintendo can crack it, they'll have a massive market base that's almost completely theirs. They won't even need to go after Microsoft and Sony's fans, though that could also happen too. xD

In short, it's very refreshing to see Nintendo getting so much right after the relative abomination that was the GameCube.

the price is amazing. the wii doesn't actually have to compete against ps3 or xbox 360 because it's really cheap and I'm sure many people will be actually able to afford a wii next to one of the pricy next gen consoles.

plus nintendo is gonna attract a whole bunch of new customers, ppl who never played games before.

ah by the way, I know it's a bit out of context, but is anybody else pissed that the PC version of Alan Wake is exclusively for windows vista?

The Wii controller seemed to be pretty awesome. Red Steel didn't impress me at all. Using the katana especially looked kind of awkward, but I'm sure it's just an early demo.
