I got through the silly hovercraft shit, and then Steam deleted all of my save game files. So that was pretty much the end of me giving a shit.

You can't say rubbish like that without backing it up, D3.

I mean, if you were to suggest something like GRIM FANDANGO, then okay, I might be willing to agree, but somehow I doubt your tastes are that exquisite. xD

i liked FEAR more. it wasn't as immersive. however, the game play imo was awesome.

    Doesn't make HL2 not one of the best still though, even if FEAR was pretty good. D;

Fear had quite a bit of afwul level design.

I disagree - I think it had mostly great level design (as in the vast majority of combat areas worked extremely nicely), but over reliance on the same asset set. If they had mixed up the locations a bit more it coulda been a classic, but as it stands its just a really good action FPS. HL2 is probably more memorable due to its more unique locations and varied gameplay, but its combat wasn't as exciting. Which is better? Well I wouldn't like to say really - both have their merits.

Yes the gameplay in fear was fun, but the visual design of the levels were poor and repetitive.

lol, we are so off topic

    And so forth.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers now that the Ep. 1 .gcf file is open to interpretation, but the little snippets I've heard sound immense.

I don't like this episodic content style at all. I'll be paying whatever it works out to be with tax, £12 or something and I bought HL2 brand new for like £20.

I'll just read reviews of it and maybe pick it up if it gets cheap.

I just don't feel it's as good as 'everyone' makes it out to be. I would most certainly consider underrated games like System Shock 2 and Kingpin to be much superior, but hey just my opinion innit

Oh and I enjoyed FEAR and Quake 4 a lot more than HL2 for the record.

Actually i gotta agree somewhat with d3 here.

I wanted to like HL2 more than I actually did.

I don't know what it was. Perhaps the timing. Perhaps I just don't enjoy that kind of games so much anymore or perhaps it just wasn't that good imo

At least I think it was FAR from as good as HL1.

Clearly our gaming preferences are almost infinitely seperated, D3. Infinitely.

As for the HL1/HL2 thing, sure; HL1 was a lot better. It was a classic that took storytelling in games to a new level, and was in itself a masterpiece. HL2 is about the closest an FPS has gotten since, though.

I loved the pacing, the presentation, the unfolding of events, all of it. It's just an amazingly well put together game, and to speak ill of it seems almost absurd in my eyes. What I liked most is that new things were always happening. It never ended up like games such as Quake 4 where it's alright at first, but then you realise you're doing the same shit over and over again. Variety is one of the main reasons I loved HL2 as the balance between repetition and discovery is almost perfectly balanced.

If it pisses you off, just think of it as HL3 and get over it.

But atm when the real hl3 comes out, i am soo confused (like this ).. I just watched the trailer, and it did has something new, but its still looking same old HL2 with a little different story and enemies.. Maybe later in future ill buy this.. Still have to finish HL2 (Formated 2x after ~70%, and im not a real gamer [i play 1,5h max. at one day])..

Looks exactly like hl1dm, I don't see why people want to "remake" old games, maps etc.

Is it because it's easier to sharpen the textures and copy the whole thing onto a new engine, than it is to create something new and innovative.

I guess from a nostalgic point of view it's nice to see some old stuff brought back to life.

    So here's my point:

I will cry if 10 years from now, people are still creating half-assed remakes

    of de_dust.

Exactly. I don't want HL1DM to look all shiny and shit. I want it to look like the original, with a few fun features like ragdolls thrown in.

    Nostalgia's a beautiful thing.

I don't really enjoy mapping for HL2DM and not many people will play any HLDM maps should I create them. Now I have old skool HLDM action coupled with Source technology.

    Mapping might be fun again!
