If you have ever needed a custom vent or wanted a different type of vent , I am currently getting peoples ideas together and makeing them . I will be releasing all the vents i make into a vent pack for everyone to be able to dl and such. I know css has tuns of vents but the ones that i am making will look different and will have a more customizable feel.

*note* if you have any ideas or picture references post them here in this thread and ill get working on them.

some that i just recently made.

I'd remove all those end faces, and make a generic vent grate model.

Nice idea though, needs T pieces, and perhaps some Y axis height transformation pieces.

Are these going to be available for any source mod, or just cs?

and how about making a Y-split and some tube ducts?

I'm pretty sure these are for his little conspiracy mod he's doing.

Yeah, do some that go either down or up. I see a place or two where you coulda done some optimization but hey they're just vents I guess.

Other shape suggestions are good as well.

well they will come in a model folder and a materials folder . then all you have to do is just drop them in your / mod or valve game folder to use them ^^

that's a really good idea. people should make more sets like this. heck, if someone can think of something like this they want I'd be willing to do it. good work vivi.

Nice, that turn on the first one looks kinda strange though, tad hard to see how it really looks with the outlines and all.

But good, can never have too many vents

    mmm.

I'm talking the insulated sort of duct, like this (http://%7boption%7d), but with fiberglass insulation around it, and then a joiner like this (http://%7boption%7d)

Oh wow, that vent in the middle is pretty interesting, i'd never have thought of that, but i don't know how well it would flow in a realism-based level. Awesome, still.

I'd consider modelling the insides, why not, not too many polies and it'd be a nice touch of detail.

we'll have to see about that. atm im not doing that. but after im doing doign all of the vents ill go back and see which ones would benifit from having an inside

well see what it looks like with a nice normal map and spec map then if it still looks bad. we scrap it.

i think that'd be way over the top and too wasteful. It's a vent. How often are you gonn get so close to a vent that you would notice whether or not the inside is fully 3D? I'd just model it like a box and do the rest with textures.

Yeah, but with a transparent tex for the grate and a few feet either way, it'd be nice to be able to shine a flashlight in there, could work well with ambient noises too.

I mean, not all grates have to have an interior, just like one piece, that can be used for the purposes above.

    Just a thought though.

yeah that'd be nice rick, if the vents are going to be at a lower level for the player to actually easily be able to look into them. They're on the ceiling I'm assuming so it's not really useful to model the inside. (less there was a modeled grate cover pointed downward where the player could flash a light up or something but that's still too much)
