Really cool stuff. I wonder why the framerate/movement was so slow?

Anyway, if you liked that you should check out http://www.planethalflife.com/nostalgia/. That site holds a large collection of old screenshots and movie clips.

The weirdest thing is that was ten years ago! Feels like just a few years ago I bought HL.

well, 7 1/2-ish. Game shipped in November 98, so it'll be 8 years this november. But still... yeah.

Crazy that they gutted almost all of that in the course of the following year or so. I remember that formal looking room with the pillars and such (two marines and an old hostile barney in the video) being one of my favorite shots pre-release but it never made the final game.

wow that brings back the memories. i think when HL came out it was my favorite time in gaming...before PS2 and Xbox etc...even though I really do like a lot of that generation games it was the HalfLifes, Jedi Knight, C&C games and SNES / N64 that brings most warmth to my heart when it comes to gaming.

    sigh...

Haha sweet, never seen that trailer before but I remember the first picture I saw of Half-Life was with some sandbags and a green hud.

Also quite cool to see those now classic textures used so ineffiecently

Damnit, I'm 19 and this thread makes me feel old.

sigh, indeed. I remember Jedi Knight. Still play it through every now and then. One of the best.

i never saw any screens or trailers for hl before i played it. I got a full demo before the game was released and i was pleasantly surprised. It was a lifechanging game

Hehe, I remember seeing that on like, PC Zone or PC Gamer's cover disc... I found the chumtoad killing the scientist NPC so awesome at the time, although looking back now (and knowing the backstory behind the making of the game) it's crazy how much they reorganised, improved and achieved in less than a year.

Oh, and KFS: wasn't the pillar room from/consolidated into HL Uplink?

That dark corridor is pretty cool imo. Some other areas also look more detailed. But overall it looks bad

Hey is that barney (in the lobby) getting shot by Gordon ?

First time seeing this. Lots of great stuff there, I especially liked the large bullsquid and the old tentacle scene (which I think is better and more scarier) and the way the old tentacles looked. But most of the level design was really bad...ofcourse...

First time for me too (and I'm glad Google Videos finally seems to have opened their service in France) and it sure brings back lots of memories

If anyone is wondering whether to buy the Raising the Bar book about HL2, it's full of these very early drawings and renders. Got it for my bday last month and had finished it that same night.
