Since I'm in the mood to pull out somewhat old stuff. Here's ns_lucid, finished in the last half of 2005. I'm not sure how long the dev cycle for it was exactly, but I think it was around 1-2 months, (which is rather fast for a ns_ map).

The lighting and general theme for this map came about from me being tired of the 'XTREEM LITING' that is/was popular in ns maps. On a related note, I'm sure dissonance will be pleased to know that all the lighting in this map was done purely with point lights (I don't think I even used light_spot).

    It looks awesome mouse

Some areas could be slightly dark though.

So that explains why the lighting looks so bland Sorry, couldn't resist. Honestly though I do think the lighting is pretty poor in the earlier shots - I appreciate you wanted to get away from the typical high-contrast style of most NS maps, but it just comes across as featureless and lazy to me. The darker areas look far nicer to me, but then I am a sucker for orange

I honestly don't think it looks all that bland, although there are a few areas where it could have done with a light turned off/broken, just to break up the repetition. The fifth screen almost looks like it was rendered with fullbright on, though.

    And I don't have anything against light_spot's

Very nice for a HL1 map. Really liking the brushwork and mood of the map. Good stuff.

Personally I am with you, high contrast lighting kinda irks me, but then when it comes to lighting I am pretty tasteless. It's always that hardest part of any map for me.

Nice werks. I really like the look of the hives for some reason, perhaps because they don't just look like rooms with green stuff growing on the walls, they're all corroded, which is rather cool. I haven't played ns in a while, but the layout seems pretty good too.

I'll start on TD maps soon, I swear.

Some of the first shots do indeed lack quality lighting, despite your excuse. Some of the shots look fine though and it overall seem to be a nice quality map:)
