My favorite series of patches for BF1942:

Pilots are too powerful, let's take 'em down a peg. Now you can shoot pilots. Oh snap, turns out that flak kills people with headshots like crazy now and the falling planes kill more people than the pilots do! Remove this feature and make it so that planes faster. :psyduck:

p.s. defrag I miss playing bf2 with you and mulchy

also before the patch the AA was more likely to hit friendly assets than enemy assets anyways. I remember on the dam level, i was sitting in the AA at the airstrip, an enemy jet flies over the airstrip, so i shoot at it -- the missiles somewhat follow it... before changing course to the 2 players boarding into my team's attack chopper (killing them and the other 2 guys who failed to be the first two to board it).

    team vehicle damage

war in 2142? Sure...i'm kinda in the mood for some "futuristic" war games with lazers and mechs and stuff...not that BF2142 has to be the answer, but it's wetting my appetite I guess.

I don't put too much stock in the screens right now...honestly I'm more interested in what the gameplay balance is actually like. I'm sure graphics won't be the best when they're released but they won't induce puking.

    Regarding the mechs...

There have been plenty of games with Mechs across many genres: Mechs in Mechwarrior games, in RTS games and to some degree in FPS / Action games. I would think that a Mech should be able to wipe out a shitload of soldiers...it would take a serious fire power to bring one down (i'd hope) and maybe soldiers with big rockets or lasers could do it blah blah blah.

My point is, as long as they are balanced then great. I also don't think there should be a lot of mechs in a battle at once, at least early in the game. I like the idea of seeing a mech for the first time as being a "holy shit" moment that is cool. If in level one there are 10 vs. 10 mech battles

with them getting blown up like Stormtroopers getting attacked by [anyone] then it wouldn't make the mechs that special.

So many Ewoks, so few Mechs...

I'm extremely tired of hacked together future war scenarios. You can call it reading too much into it if you want, but the reality of what you're creating drives how real the game is going to feel.

So breaking this down. The earth is covered in ice and becomes mostly uninhabitable, save for a small chunk which realistically I'm guessing is near the equator. Two "factions" (futurewars needs factions OBVIOUSLY) decide they both want the land and will fight to get it. They then use the clearly advanced and seemingly unlimited technology at their disposal to kill each other with mechs and junk. Why then, is the landscape open and filled with sporadic skyscrapers? Couldn't they theoretically use their high technology to build more highrise buildings to allow everyone to co-exist? They just built these skyscrapers in the middle of a forest??? The universe they created makes absolutly no sense and carries with it no weight, this is what causes people to hate all the b.s. sci-fi that rolls down the pipe from game developers. It's bad science because of any number of ridiculously science contradictions (the least of which being obvious global warming in the coming century that would proclude the world turning to ICE. Somebody watched The Day After Tomorrow too many times I think.) Then on top of that it's bad Fiction because the actions of the people involved don't make any sense either... this is not the cause of the war, people would not do this.

    Verdict : DOWNGRADE

zilla, your take on the future seems to be a bit Utopian. I think the war would be more likely to happen than everyone co-existing in skyscrapers. But then again history has shown that war is always the last resort...

    oh wait...

I didn't intend that. It won't be utopian at all, war is an inevitable human reaction.

I'm saying this war they've created is absolute and utter bullshit. It doesn't make the least bit of sense.

(Please save all Iraq jokes until after the discussion. Thanks - the management.)

i haven't read into the story, which honestly i wasn't assuming much from.

i'm just thinking about the gameplay first.

but regarding the story, i agree that even if a "good" story in a game like this is just window dressing, it still helps the immersion. I haven't finished GRAW yet, and i've heard the story isn't that deep, but so far I like it enough and it makes me want to play more.

so back on BF2142, I do agree that the completely bullshit story would make it less appealing as a complete game package.

I'd like to say "maybe it will change between now and release" but somehow I really doubt that it will.

I got some interesting vital information from Dice and this is not an 1aprils joke.. It's amazing.

The information have been however taken from a swedish pc magazine I own and it's the first world preview ever, bf2142.

    *Spoilers*

The game will have 2 teams. - Pan Asian Coalition, European Union

The Kits will be removed from 7 to only 4.

    *Assault

    *Recon

    *Support

    *Anti-Vechicle

Because this is an sci-fiction new upcoming game Dice will make all things

different. Dice have made from scratch a new weapon arsenal of how it would look in the future. They call it Dicearms.

Things we goin see in this game is

*Meches - 2 players can control it, 1 controlling the movement while the other handling the machineguns.

*Personal turret - It's a flying turret that defends you attacking the enemies and follows you to your death.

*EMP car/truck shoots and blasts off very cool emp pulse waves on

enemies, for example if the wave hits a mech inside the mech screen

player see will flicker and crash so you'll belive it's the graphic card is burning up!

*The ice will be used for amazing things.

*There will be snow you never seen before in the levels.

It's a cool game and even if you have just seen the video it doesn't mean anything it's so much more. I got some new cool screens but I don't want to share them. And it's amazing EA works fast with games, It seems like EA is good for planning shipping dates. So thank the guys at Dice they showed you a very early preview of the Video, they actually never did it so early before with battlefield2. So um if you thinkin that bf2 is bf2124 you are wrong since it's bf3 now. It's only the name. Amazing stuff here guys, just wait until e3.

The reason to make this game? : The Digital Illusions team is very interested in sci-fiction.

Will there be a new updated engine? : Yes there will be a new updated engine of course, it will be more then so.

Will there be a new gameplay: Nexus can't really tell you, but there will be a new ranking system

Did they include the Mech to the game because it's an cool machine?: No not only because it's cool machine, It will be more then that cool machines.

Thanks, this was all I can tell you about the game. Don't forget it was me first to post this early game video so.. um right.

No comments I have allready spoiled to much..

Yes, for god sakes lets not like a game because of the background story, playability and funfactor hardly matters these days.

Im somewhat looking forward to this game, i play bf2 on a daily bases and even though i dont really like the engine, for a number of reasons: movement still doesnt feel right, the load on memory and cpu is insane through out the game, even when trying to find a server, balance in maps and vehicals still is abit off, dare I say claymores completly breaking bf2:sf, because the flags are in "odd" places with only one acess, and ofcourse the huge randomness in hit detection and accuracy of weapons, i've had point blank headshots not kill, and footshots killing almost instantly,

however it still works and i enjoy playing it, its a big leap forward compaired to bf1942 and bf:V,

with this game i have a feeling its going to be a bf:V enjoyable game but not as big as bf2, maybe because theres not enough time inbetween bf2 and bf2142 just like bf:42 and bf:V

personally i would not have mind if thyed milk bf2 for abit longer , couple of more boosters etc, then bring on the next bf fall 2007.

none the less ill buy it and mostlikly enjoy it, and they know it

This game plays great, I like it way more than BF2, but that can also be because that I don't find the "desertwar" theme of BF2 that fun really.
