Ok, now I'm really thinking about leaving this country

As many of you are aware Brazil is a pretty dangerous place (specialy Rio de Janeiro) but it never really bothered me that much because I was never directly affected by this sick violence (appart from being stolen once).

But today something happened to a close person and I'm starting to change my mind. My dad's sister in law has 2 kids, a boy (3) and a girl (1). Today she took her son to the school and soon after leaving him, two armed men approached her car and pointed a gun to her head and to her girl (who happened to be in the car, since there was nobody home to take care of her). She was being kidnapped....

Shit, I never thought this kinda shit would happen to someone I know, I see this kind of shit on tv and I'm like "ok that's it, unlucky people". So yeah, they were asking 2 thousand bucks to release them both. She didn't have all that money of course (she's a teacher and teachers get crappy salaries in Brazil). So they accepted a 600 bucks offer, took her to a bank agency and withdrew the money, releasing her soon after that.

So here's the deal: She was already a bit paranoid (specialy with her kids) and now she probably won't even leave her house anymore, I think she will get really really paranoid. My brother is a bit paranoid too and I think it will only get worse now. Shit, I'm ok with it but everyone is chocked... It's a really hard situation.

Appart from this shit today some fuckers also broke into my dad's house last year and took away almost all his stuff: TV, computer, many clothes, microwave etc etc. And the worst: It was during daylight, at about midday.

I gotta say that I have considered leaving this country a few times in the past but now I'm seriously thinking about it... even if I only get crappy jobs like babysitter or something instead of a gig at some game dev. I don't want to either get killed nor get a family member killed....

You may be thinking "it's none of my business" but I needed to post this. Sorry if this is not clear enough and got strong language but I'm just really pissed off atm.

Minos seriously, you have the talent to be in gamedev one day, keep on pursuing that career, I honestly believe it will get you out of Brazil one day if you really want.

    word.

Forget america, they will not get you a visa but when footballers can play in europe then a talented gamedev can do this too.

I'd just buy a gun, seriously. I wouldn't accept it if some of my relatives would be threaten like that. Of course it's easy for me to say this from here at finland.

Tho i live in the centre of my city and there have been 2 stabbings (at least one of them died) and one pharmacy robbery (who robs pharmacy?) where 2 people were injured, these have happened in ½ a year. I haven't been on the street at nights without somekinda handy weapon. I don't want to sound like a racist, but there's lot of foreigners (mainly romains) here who really doesn't like bald guys like me and if that makes me to carry a rod or something like that, i really don't know what place like brazil would cause.

Anyway that stuff really sucks and i really hope that situation goes to better direction. Every big problem sounds so small when reading stuff like that.

I hate idiots like that. Some gang-banger here in savannah shot an 18 year old girl ( my friend's sister's best friend) in a mugging in the back, it went through her spine out her chest and she died near instantly. Why? So you can grab 50$

Mino grab a job in the industry, you're the shit!

Shit, ferret that really sucks man. Yeah I know violence is not a Brazil only problem, it's in everywhere. The point is that I can't see any chance for it to get better in the near future. Imo it will only get worse and worse untill it turns into a civil war. And I really hope my family and I will be very very far from this country when it happens

btw, thanks for the kind words guys

    /me pets everyone

I hope everything goes well for you Mino, but I'm just wondering HOW are you going to move away from there. Do you have enough money to make the change?

    Good luck!

That's the biggest problem sk. As I said, I'm thinking about accepting even shitty jobs, as long as I can get the fuck out of here.

I just won't do inconsequent things, will see how this year will turn out and will make my decision.

In Scotland you just get little kids shouting abuse at you, drunkards aiming bottles at your head, and uninvited guests stealing antique chairs from your parties. As much as I like to bitch about the place, things like this make me realise just how lucky I am. Best of luck getting out of there mate; you've got the skills to make it happen so just give it your all I guess!

If he gets a gig in game dev the company will pay for the relocation usually. Good luck, Minos!

Yeah, keep at it and hopefully you can be whisked away somewhere. Visa wise, Europe or Australia is probably your best bet IMO.

Maybe you should start putting together a serious protfolio and feeling out game companies and see what their reaction is?

    Apply everywhere min0s.

So that atleast someone will offer you a job

Maybe that outsourcing game dev. in India? You remember those awesome screens!

I have no idea about what living in a country like Brazil feels like, I guess I am actually lucky to live in a pretty boring and cold place.
