The faces of Muhammad

Some months ago a danish newspaper published 12 drawings of the prophet Muhammad. Since then many muslim and middleeastern countries are getting crazier and crazier ideas each day.

Many muslim countries and people want the danish government to give the newspaper a fee. In Denmark we got a society of justice with free speech, so a government can logically not just give a newspaper a fee. If anyone have to judged here, then you got the courts and judges to do that.

They also want the danish government to apologize. That sounds crazy to me as the newspaper which published the drawings is completely independant of the government. The government have absolutely nothing to say regarding the articles in the newspaper, so why should they apologize for it?

Danish products are receiving a boykot in most middleastern countries. How on earth can it be fair that some milk company is punished for something a completely unrelated newspaper have done?

Imo the requirements and boykots down there were already bad enough, but now they are going even further. EU offices get raided by armed men. The danish flag is burned off. Palestinian groups want all danes out of the western bank within 3 days. Others are encouraging everybody to attack all avaible danish targets.

These kind of actions are really pissing me off. The free speech and liberal press we have in Denmark is among the things I am the most proud of. Now all these people are attacking it and want us to discard that and do as they want. All because of some drawings.

They should not be allowed to threat us like that. We should not abandon our free society and way of living because of some far out muslims.

Where is the backup from other western countries? USA usually do a lot to get freedom and liberty in this world, attack other countries and such. But do they have the courage to support Denmark in this case? Appearently not...

We need everyone not living in the middleage to step up and tell those middle eastern countries a thing or two about the freedom of speech.

I saw this on the news here. It is ofcourse ridiculous, but some ppl think it is well deserved because the drawings insult islam, and we all know already that you got a problem then.

It is just typical. Stuff like this happened in Holland too, except the author got beheaded before the riots spread

Btw, i think the drawings are cool

It's pretty damned offensive. To put it in perspective it'd be like drawing Jesus Christ with guns in each hands and claiming him to be a provider of hate and terror.

Mohammed and Islam are not the problem. Poverty, ignorance and fanaticism are.

You're being obtuse. I was talking about Muslim extremism and how in the Danish cartoon Mohammed's visage was being used to portray terrorism.

I completely agree with posty here, even tho I'm a big fan of freedom of speech (aka. pissing people off) there are some people that don't take everything with a grain of salt.

I can guarantee that if some newspaper in middle-east published same kind of pictures of Jesus as a warmonger, many Christians would go nuts. Same with everything else.

It wasn't that long ago when I saw in the news, some Hindu extremists burning a guy because he was wearing a cross on his neck in India, they said it insults the land or some bitching like that.

The problem caused here might be just a handful of people, it doesn't reflect the Muslim majority in any way.

I found these cool posts on some blogs. Good to see that we are not fighting for freedom of speech alone:)

    Quote

This was last September and the Muslims aren’t letting this issue go away. They’ve already lodged a somewhat florid protest at the UN, where they got the sympathy of a tranzi ear or two. But their aim is an abject apology from Denmark for breaking an Islamic taboo - or else. They grow more threatening and the courageous Anders Rasmussen calmly declines to change his mind, saying publishing cartoons is not against Danish law, which is the law that applies in Denmark. Why are our cowardly leaders letting the steadfast Mr Rasmussen and the newspaper’s editors take the heat alone? Why has not one American Congressman raised the issue in Congress? No one would expect an unequivocal response from the British prime minister, but is there not one British MP brave enough to support Mr Rasmussen and the Danish people who are, after all, defending the liberty of all of us? Is there not one newspaper editor – even a tabloid – with the strength of conviction to support the Danes? Now Danish livelihoods are being threatened for failing to condemn this infraction against Islamic law, with boycotts of their products.

Is there not one damn’ politician in the entire Anglosphere who will take a stand with Mr Rasmussen? What about John Howard, then? The newly elected Harper? God help us, where is Jesse Jackson?

So far, the sole support has come from Norway – another Viking nation, let us note – one of whose papers printed the original article translated into Norwegian and ran the cartoons. Will not one elected member of an Anglosphere government stand shoulder to shoulder with Mr Rasmussen, who is single-handedly defending Western values and freedoms?

    Quote

Denmark is under enormous pressure these days, thanks to the fascistic attempts of large parts of the Islamic world to force them to deny their Western birthright of free speech and free expression because one of their newspapers printed a few mildly critical cartoons of the Islamic Prophet. An Arab Muslim boycott of one of their largest dairy exporters, Arla Foods, is under way, in addition to the usual death threats and childish whining.Support the cartoon anti-jihad and buy Danish products -- Denmark is fighting the good fight for all of us Western people and our right to preserve our traditional, free and open cultures.

    To be honest the jerks that drew the drawings and the directors that printed them should really have though a few more times about what they were doing;

Islam got a strick rule that NO IMAGES OF MUHAMMAD is allowed. Not even their mosques have pictures of him, they might have 1 picture in the whole mosque, which would be of the imam (or whatever its called, sorry I don't know). And making a charicatur (like this of their most holy person, is a huge insult.

And we "oh so good" european western countrys are dumb enough to be all like "OMG WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEACH, LETS DIS-RESPECT THE MUSLIMS AND ISLAMIC PEOPLE!". Let me put it like this, if I was a muslim, islamistic or anything I'd take those 12 drawings as a major insult.

Everybody is like "what the muslim and so are crazy! hating us for freedom of speach", well we all know what they are like, what their situation is like, and how the react to the smallest things, but anyway some people got to be so fucking dumb and still do stuff like that.

The thing I think made the muslims even more mad, is that the magazine that printed it in Norway, was a christian magazine, so I don't believe that it made it better for them.

Whatever they do, WE are the ones that fucked up, its not the muslims and islam that did anything wrong.

edit: sorry I missed some capital letters on Muslim and Islam and such.

I think theres some miscommunication here. The global riot started in Denmark itself. What poor, ignorant danish extremists are you talking about? And when were the Kuwaitis and Saudi government poor?

I dont think anybody on here is surprised they are offended so lets just get that over with. What would you think if our christians went nuts over a drawing? You already called them nuts, so dont be afraid to call these ppl nuts as well

Yes, an action figure with GIJoe weapons sure is equal to those political cartoons, our arguments are slain.

Awesome! Let's needlessly rile up tensions between Muslim communities and the West further. ROCK ON.

This is a bunch of egos butting heads and turning what should have been a simple apology for the sake of politeness into a warrantless culture-clash.

Its not about a simple apology, its about fearing for your life for drawing a cartoon. Its a sickness that has to be exposed and wiped out, which is probably the purpose of these drawings and the reason why other countries are publishing them as well. When someone gets slaughtered and all you can say is "well what did you expect, they react to the smallest things" or "he should have apologized", then you are ignoring the real problem.

I think you rather have to post a picture of Maria (Jesus' mom, the virgin), in a gangbang with 100s of people, at once. That would maybe (except that the Muslims respect their religion abit more than christians and other western people) give the same impression.

Thats not the point. When someone does draw Mary having sex with 100 monstercocks, is it ok to threaten him with death and fatwas on all his country?

That just wouldnt happen with christians. Theyll be appalled and probably take it to the court and win, which is how it should be. Any other way, GTFO ->

Stolve seems to be the single person intelligent enough to wrap the whole damn thing in to swallowable pill size format. Read his post, if you still don't understand what he is about, read it again, rinse and repeat if necessary.

What WE as the mighty and oh so "civilized" western people think is O.K. might not fly elsewhere, and this is the thing that propably has started the whole shitfest the world is currently, and I'm not just talking about this incident, I'm talking about things that stretch good few decades.

Sure, what is perfectly ok and legal here, might not be so cool when we go to other countries. RESPECT is the word that comes in to mind, maybe if we respected enough each other, we might just survive the first hundred years of the 21st century, but people like the fabled cartoonist is shaving years off of that predicament all the time. And for what? Cheap laughs? Just because he had as short insight as his dick? Just because he is actually using our legal racism or "freedom of speech" as some might recognize it, he just gathered a whole few billion religious people and summed them up in 12 pictures, AND YOU MOTHER FUCKERS ARE ALL LAUGHS AND GIGGLES!

It's mind boggling to think how ignorant and short sighted people can be, but every day I wake up, I wake up to find yet another proof of whole planet worth of diminishing intelligence and most important of all, respect for fellow human being.

    Ignorance is the doomsday device.
