As long as the EOT stuff stays there, then it isnt a problem. But didn't Mojo decree that the eot sigs should be turned off in the other forums? That didn't go over too well.
Mapcore official 'members'?

I spoke with Mike before about revamping the site and personally rewriting the forums because I need the portfolio work. Only reason I haven't gotten anything started is because of my part-time contract and the fact I am moving at the end of the year, so it won't be until after the new year that I can have anything started for the site.
Oh yeah, some show of maturity would probably help this community a ton in terms of public opinion. A little site reorganization helps, but nicer, more helpful people goes a longer way. Even if you cannot help, being more mature is helpful.
My hats off to Kedhrin for posting and shame on the EOT crew destroying the thread.

This is a free service provided to you without your e-mails being sent to a marketing firm or pop up ads in your face every 5 seconds. Cope.
And if you really hate EOT so much, I have three suggestions for you.
1) Stop posting there
2) Stop using thsoe ugly EOT signatures
3) Stop paying attention to it

every board has an offtopic forum, we got EOT . Ofcourse our offtopic is pretty lame cuz we just fill every thread with images, theres no discussion going on.
It could actually use real moderation, not 20 stickies
-
Correction, not all boards have OT, many forums just rely on General Discussion to fill that hole and they treat it like General Discussion, EOT is a special breed of a wild west of forum categories.
-
Well I am going to fix up the spotlight forums and definately get things back up and running. We had a discussion about this a long time ago but the threads sort of died (checked the two global announcements)

Yes indeed. Really it comes down to 1 thing: goals. If we are clear on our goals for mapcore, we are much more likely to accomplish something.

Goal Proposition: Make mapcore more proffesional and friendly to new people.

how would you measure that?
key to defining a goal is to have a way of measuring it. not saying this is a bad goal, but what evidence could you say is a measure of "more professional and friendly to new people."
(seroiusly, that is a good idea, just want to know your initial thoughts on how you'd measure that so this gets more concrete)
-
Well one way the make it more professional would be to drive out all the members who don't have industy jobs, but I'm assuming that that isn't quite what Ferret meant
On a more serious note, I think it would be hard to make a site both more professional and more newbie friendly - to give off an air of experience, skill and professionalism the place should really be made up of mostly experienced individuals, which somewhat contradicts the appealing to newcomers ideal. Having a serious and high-level community of experienced and talented people isn't going to appeal to newcomers as much as a down-to-earth, free for all, mixed ability community is. I don't mean to make out that they are entirely mutually exclusive, but I think it is a balance. -
cleaning the forums up and requiring maturity is a good first step.

how does a sacrifice in features help mikezilla afford more money to spend on the site? We dont need to have an uploading feature. Yeah it would be cool, but I'd rather keep mapcore "ad" free than have these extra features.
A sacrifice in features would make it easier to afford and easier to implement, I never said it would make him money... remember, these are just ideas. I can't help but get the feeling you're getting a little jumpy.

what features? its a forum not a video game.

Forums can have features too..
hell, even a toilet can have features

The thing is, with just simple addons to this forum, things could be soo much smoother.. ofcourse, a little overhaul of the frontpage, and some moderators (owners) that actually do stuff... Like beeing more harsh on people that crit really badly and just write "dont like it". I for one hate it when people write that bullshit, because it drives people away. Welcoming a first time user with that nonsense is to shoot yourself in the foot. The only kind of people it attracts are people that end up in EOT (hell).
Oh and moneywise.. Show me how to donate money, and i would.
-
Ok forums can have features. But what features are you talking about? I'm not saying they CAN"T. I'm asking for examples of what featuers THEY have that WE dont. Other than being able to upload pictures.

I should be king and lord liege of the Mapcronian Lords of Court.
you may all swear fealty now and bend to kiss my hand.
-
We could appoint people to tend certain "jobs" like there already are, like the Engine discussion threads where those who work with the engines answer to the questions.
It would bring more professional feel to the forum and it would make the forum more newbie friendly.

I don't think Mapcore needs to change. With a couple exceptions it's generally a levelheaded, laid back and accepting bunch of people. It's a modest collection of community minded creative types, and I don't think it needs to aspire beyond that. The people who run it already have full time jobs. I think the forum structure could be much more streamlined and the moderatorships less fractured, but it works pretty well for what it is.
EOT has its place, and that place is in EOT. EOT needs to stay in EOT.
