The Grammar Orgy

I find people constantly bitching about tiny spelling errors way more annoying than the actual spelling errors...maybe that's just me..

It's better to criticize the meaning of the message, not the diction. It's like getting an awesome/shitty present and commenting on the wrapping, rather than the present itself. Attack the beef of the post, not the skin.

MISPELLED.MISPELLED.MISPELLED.......
So whose spelling is that, then? I just wonder because people are making a big deal of it but properly it would be "misspelled" or "misspelt."
Sorry 'bout the hijack.

It looks like we need another mod to moderate the mods errors
-
Petition to have rd as moderator with a mission to replace all correctly spelled words with the internet equivalent. Let the editing wars begin.
-
To have RD as a moderator of grammar and spelling would be like having a fat man guard a buffet of pies and tasty cakes.

Don´t believe in anything you can´t see or eat.

a fat man on a diet

I actually wrote, misspelt, and then posty went on a rampage on color/colour style.
But this just proves my point, if people didn't bitch about typos this thread would be still interesting and worth replying to, but because this turned in to a grammar orgy, it just destroys the whole thread and the moderator system.
Mod abusing his powers in this way is worse than not having a mod at all.

agreed.

Political Discussion is a place where people should be at least attempting to write coherently in an effort to get their points across and not look like third graders while doing so.
If you don't like the rules, don't post in Political Discussion. I will not tolerate AOL-speak and I do apologize to Kosmo about the "misspelt" incident, but over-all I'm trying to crack down on the spread of crap posts here in PD.
Again, if you don't like the rules, don't post in Political Discussion.
-
I agree with you there posty, we should try to check that what we write is written atleast so that it doesn't make the point hard to understand.
But as it clearly is, political discussion is about opinions, and respecting others opinions and choices. So even if some can stand few typos and few go mad over them, we should try to tolerate them atleast. If you can tolerate others opposing views, you very well can tolerate few typos.
So again, more than anything, let's be civilized towards each other.

people who use the wrong form of your/you're, there/their/they're, then/than and use apostrophes to pluralize regularly should be shot
and the word ur drives me nucking futs

Typos yes, regular mispellings and AOL-speak no.

But as you can see from your misspelling 'mispellings' even if you know how the word is spelt, you still write it wrong, it's a basic motoric action of the hand, hard to fix. So that is why I said, be civilized with each other, and don't attack them with blind rage, it's not that people make typos and misspellings just to be a jackass.
But you are absolutely right with the AOL slang, that is used just to piss people.

Awesome, my own thread! Sorry again for derailing the last one Kosmo, I'm glad this was split off.
I agree completely that this is no place for the AOL-speak. Typos and honest misspellings bug me but I tolerate them, especially considering English is not everyone's first language. But come on guys - make an effort. If you can't be bothered to preview and read back over your own post maybe you should think twice about making everybody else read it.
