    Have you wanted to find a fast and simple way to distribute your map files, models, texture sets or modifications? STEAM presently does not support sections dedicated to third-party modification downloading on its network, which is where Vapour comes in. Vapour is run by the community as a fast and easy way to download modifications, levels, custom models and more! Presently, support is for:

    * Half-Life2 Mods

    * Half-Life2 Custom Maps

    * Day of Defeat: Source Maps

    * Doom3 Mods

    * Quake3 Mods

    * Quake4 Mods

    * UT2004 Mods

    With Battlefield 2, Half-Life 1 and Counter-Strike maps coming soon! If you r a level designer or modmaker who wants to get your work out into the hands of more people, people who can help you distribute your files further on a growing network: then stop by http://www.vapour-online.com and look around. With almost two dozen DM maps presently hosted, and a growing number of DoD:S (after its addition only recently), your map will be able to be downloaded by over 3000 members since its release in Sept 2005.

    In addition to that, expect the following features:

    Play Mods - Mods that you already have installed with be automatically detected. Just double click to launch!

    Install new mods and maps - You can browse new mods and maps online and automatically install them with one click!

    Update existing mods and maps - You can automatically download updates for the mods that you have installed without having to wait in download lines or hunt around for a site that doesn't require your first-born to let you download files.

    Find servers to play on - You can get a list of servers running a particular mod, and double clicking on one will automatically connect you.

    Chat with players - Chat with other players about the game you're playing, organize a pick up, swap strategies, or challenge them to a match!

    No application should go without any screenshots on the site. Unless I'm missing them.

    Skjalg. I think James is talking about Hammer 3.5, not 4.0 (wich is for source).

    Furthermore I miss the arguements why vapour is better then STEAM. These are the only two programs of this kind now available yet I miss the comparissons.

    Good to see STEAM is getting a competitor though.

    I downloaded it and tried it, and it looks quite usefull to me. It detects your game installations (it supports multiple games like HL2, UT2K4, Q4, D3 and some are yet to be added) and gives you a list of submitted maps and mods for the selected game, which you can download from within the Vapour GUI and it installs that stuff into the appropriate directory for you.

    So, no Hammer 4.0 without Steam, but a nice way to distribute and get levels and mods. I like this.

    Yup, just tried it. I like the idea but I think the interface has to be improved. I dont like having tons of different windows of the same program on my desktop.

    Now, If someone could just make HAMMER run without STEAM...

    Why are people thinking this makes hammer work without steam? Am I missing something here? I didn't see anything about it that relates to hammer whatsoever.

    People tend to imagine what they want to read.

    Take a break dudes. Skjalg was the only one misreading that. Thereby, it's not that retarded to think about HAMMER when reading this.
