For some strange reason, caffeine makes me drowsy, just the opposite of what it used to do, did someone change the rules here? I tend to drink something with Guarana, it's basically the same as coffee, it has caffeine, but the softdrinks are way better than a cup of joe.

It could be that you are used to such extreme quantities of caffeine that your chemical balance has been wiped out

I have that too, and i think i know why...

We all know that when you drink/eat something that contains alot of sugar, you get really awake for a while, but when the rush is over you get more tired than you used to be...

Now, if we combine this with caffeine, something that usually gets you very awake... And we combine this with looong use, so your body is very accustomed to getting some caffeine, and it doesnt really affect it at all, you're basically used to it..

Conclusion, you get sleepy because your softdrinks contain sugar, and you're too accustomed to caffeine.. Try laying off on the soft drinks (only drink water or milk) for a couple of months, then try coca cola (or whatever) again and you'll notice the difference...

Lay off coffee for a few months!? I'd be sacked, even with the comedown effect it's about the only way I can function in work by Friday.

Insomnia is thought to be the reason for 70% of absences from work according to an article I read recently. I suffer from it pretty badly, it doesn't matter how much sleep I have I'm always tired and I doubt even powerful tranquillisers would actually do anything to solve the problem. It'll be a big problem for me with my new job as I have to be up at 6 in the morning which means an early bedtime rotor.. and I absolutely cannot sleep if I goto bed too early.. it's a losing game all round and a big problem for the working world.

A mind at peace will cure the sick body, a wise chinese old man once spoke. Try some meditating, or as steppenwolf would say, weed

Some 5 or 6 years ago I was constantly under heavy insomnia. Expecially during summertime I had hard time sleeping. Usually at least 4 times a week I couldn't sleep before it was like 03.30 and the sun became to come up. Sometimes couldn't get sleep like that for two weeks straight.

At it's worst I woke up one sunday morning and got sleep some time during friday. Of course I got ill, I had bad flu and my metabolism got totaled, I swet like hell and I had to go pissing every 30 minutes.

The next summer I got broadband and now I'm pissed because I get sleepy very early in night when I want to sit by my computer

I guess it happens to all of us. I have it right now. I can't fall asleep until at least 4-5 am and I have to be at work at about 9ish. Usually I leave work about an hour early and sleep in my car at school for about an hour before class, and then sleep in my car again between classes. Probably not a healthy way to live, but eh, at least I get some decent work done when I'm up at 4 am because I cant sleep. Nothing better to kill time than working on something.

Man, insomnia sucks. I can't sleep before the sun shows up, well, I can, but it's not too frequent. And what sucks even more is the boredom. I usualy don't feel like mapping or working on something at this hour of the day. Don't feel like reading or watching TV either. So I just sit on this fucking chair and stare at the monitor.

Oh well, perhaps the answer is starting a fight club as jez said

Seems most people need to smoke a few times before they understand the effects (and how to smoke). If you've only tried a couple times you should try again.

I find alcohol very useful in getting to sleep. I'll drink a couple dark beers as I'm winding down my evening and I have no trouble dropping off.
