Be aware of what you listen to

    It has come to attenttion that record company Sony BMG uses a copyprotection software that has some shady things going on.

    When you put your music cd in to your computer and try to play it, the cd asks you to accept a license and it will install a "player" which in truth is actually a malware program or "rootkit." The program tries to hide itself from the user and from possible security software.

    Removing the software without Sony's help will in many cases have conflicts with your operating system and/or hardware.

    This is why I stopped buying CDs years ago. I'm fed up with copy protection that won't even let me play CDs on my PC / Rip to Mp3, rip-off prices and manufactured bands. :/

    I never buy CDs from Sony records anyway because nothing I listen to is signed on that label. Sucks real bad that they've done this though, surely this can't be legal?

    Well, Sony has made some strange choises in the past so this isn't anything new that they are trying to separate themselfs from the crowd. And with 21,5% share of the whole music industry sales covers their ass pretty good.

    When it comes to big companies, it's not a question if something is legal or not, it's just a question of are they doing it or not.

    I remember when my web design instructor and I got a student to think that a vinyl was a CD that was put in a microwave and spun around really fast to stretch it.

    Good times.

    never had any problem with ripping any music that I have bought, though it is mostly non-convention music that isn't in the spotlight to be stolen.

    This is why people need to learn to stop feeding the giant Sony coporate machine, they are evil and screw over their customers all the time.

    But it's not like anyone buys cds anymore right?

    That's why I believe in piracy as a way to protest against this kind of shit. They fuck us in the ass and we fuck them back. It's a reciprocal thing.

    The only original CDs I ever bought were a few by Alice in Chains and Rage Against the Machine btw. Don't plan on getting new cds so soon.

    I see piracy as the thing that lead to this, but I also see piracy as a way to get back at the big corporations.

    I have bought CDs recently, and I'm planning on buying them in the future, but I prefer independent artists, and independent record labels.

    Besides, setting aside the fucked up thing this is, why aren't you guys fighting against movie studios? Every DVD sold is copyprotected, or is that alright because they are movies or something?
