I edited the default Q4 skybox to look like the Quake II style environment. I didn't need to really change any of the actual painting because it's perfect Q2 style architecture, but I had to fiddle about with everything else.

Note: Each piece is 1024x1024, photobucket has just resized the collages because they're too big, but you can see everything anyway. It's also not nearly as blurred as it looks above.

3 hours work-time for the both of them

[edi] Damn just noticed some niggles, I'll work on these again soon.

The problem with using that in normal Quake 4 is that the lighting is a lot brighter than that of Quake II so it'll look wierd. I'll mess with an in-game shot sometime, do I just drop the tga directory into a custom .pk4 file? I've not messed around with anything to do with the Doom 3 engine yet...

Looks a little blured as you said, but still cool enough - Something like this would have fitted much better in Q4. I also want to see it ingame:)

Here's one of the pieces on it's own:

Like I said I still have to iron out some things I've missed (damn monitor brightness settings )

Get rid of that yellow/brownish stuff on the buildings/towers... its like theres a brown overlay on them, looks really weird.

Looks nice imho, though those buildings look somewhat blurry. Get rid of that indeed.

Those yellow/brown overlay things don't show up on my computer for some reason even if I brighten up the image for some reason, hence why I didn't notice them till now...

Nice D3, but what exactly did you do.

Looks to me like all he did was color correct, and I can still see the original color overlayed in the buildings.

I just recoloured it, but it wasn't easy to do without making lots of mistakes. I never claimed that this was my own work, I just wanted to make it look look more like Quake II.

Oh and fuck that piss-take thread in EOT.

Yeah well I finished it, I'll try and get it working in-game soon. If anyone else wants to have a go I wont hold it against them for doing a better job than me, I just did this for a bit of fun, nothing more.

Success! I realised that the game wasn't loading the new skybox because the lower settings use .dds files located in the progimg file, of course if you run on the high/ultra settings then it uses the targas, I've created both sets for use

Doesn't look right in some areas of the game as the lighting is a lot brighter, but it doesn't look too bad in these pictures.

Thanks to KFS for the help
