Studying

I.m singularly awful at studying. I can't ever remember shit about details, facts of figures.

i never really study for anything, if anything reading the text book helps me

You have to figure out your learning pattern, mine is cognitive so I usually just do what I'm studying, like back at school we had to learn how to use photoshop so I just fiddled around with it and learned way faster than I would have if I just were reading some book about it.

most of my studying is for science and math classes, so I just do practice problems and create my own problems and solve them.

A subject like art history, I'd just read over my notes for about 30 minutes and then rewrite them, and read them over again. Tis what I did for my art history class. walked out with an easy A.

youre just not trying hard enough

this might sound retarded, but for 4 years, i had to remember random french words and their english meanings...if you can make up a jingle using the subject, itll help...

the only thing i remember from french is remarquez means to notice

(you would notice a marker)

I summarize my text book and notes, do questions.

I haven't found a way that really work for me yet, I just try and ram all that crap into my head.

Oh and for classes like my Information Systems class, I think of my own examples (not using examples from the teacher/notes is the trick here) for different things.

Well, if you can't actually do something in the subject, I'd read and write down the most important things, that way it is recorded to my memory through motoric action.

Usually when I was studying for exams I'd just turn off the computer completely, take out the power plug and put it away somewhere thats really difficult to get to. Then I'd read away until I thought I really deserved a break.

As for remembering, I didnt. Ive always been horrible in these situations where Ive read and just had to remember it, not because I wanted to know the stuff I was reading. So the result was quite sad at most of my exams D:

95% of my exams are physics and math. I don't have the luxury of trying to remember things anymore, I have to understand everything.

Undersating, for me at least, was always way easier than learning things. Did a lot better in all the exams that relied on understanding rather than retaining facts and stats. Back in the days of my a-levels my grades varied wildly between as and es depending on how the exams were structured. Uni was a good deal easier in that respect and you can get away with blagging things a bit more and with comp sci it's a lot more based on practical work. Turning up blind drunk to some exams was probably not a good strategy though.

As far as information retention goes, I suck. But I am rather good at deduction/understanding. I do most of my studying in the minutes before the exam, the rest I figure out during the exam itself.

Although I still have fond memories of the exam where I had the Mario theme stuck in my head.
