yes many animals are treated poorly. but you don't think this is a little unusual, even gratuitous, in terms of animal cruelty?

there are plenty of stray dogs in that part of the world and they need bait for the sharks. that's fine, they're just putting two and two together. i'd just rather they shoot it in the head or cut its throat before they put a hook in its gums and drag it behind the boat, is all.

alexroyce, have you ever owned a dog?

So just because you have eaten dog, it's ok to make them suffer? Or did I miss some magical point there?

If someone was fishing with my pet fish, I'd be pretty pissed, if someone was fishing with a normal fish from the ocean, I wouldn't give it a second tought, dogs are mostly pets, tho there are some wild dogs, but there are hardly any of those left.

And alex, are you referring that since any of us is actually DOING something to stop cruelty against other humans or keeping them from starving to death that we don't care? Did you miss the whole 80s where most of the Red Cross relief money sent to africa went to the "administration costs" of certain cruel dictators? That was a pretty big blow to everyone, after than money donations just dropped near to zero.

There are more than meets the eye here, and I'd like to think that you are smart enought to add things up so that you don't come across like an asshole, respect life even if you are about to eat it.

A goldfish has a memory that is cleared every three seconds

A factual error, goldfish memory is alot longer. Just thought to say.

    And now for some facts.

Fishes are cold bloded, which means they dont feel pain.

What emotions they have when they discover that a shark is after them i don't know.

The memory span a goldfish have are longer then 3 sec which many ppl think.

They did an experiment on Mythbusters that proofs this.

A dog is a mans best friend, one that never fails you.

Also as has been said, they are often depending on humans, just like a child.

And last, i know there are cultures where eating dogs are ok.

But for most of us its not working since we have a good relationship with dogs and consider them friends, even if this is just emotional.

I wouldn't eat a dog as long as i had food.

If im about to starve it would be a different story.

And that dog couldn't be "mine" IE rised by me and my friend.

To not have emphaty with another being as intelligent as dogs seems a bit cold to me.

In some culture they ate human brains and hearts, does this make it ok to fish with them?

Two wrongs don't make a right.

what you mean ? I should just sit my ass on the couch and watch people torturing the animals ?

No, I mean the ALF are pretty damn close to terrorists from everything I've seen, threatening innocent families, digging up corpses, the list goes on.

To protect animals, support proper organisations like the RSPCA (or the Brazilian equivalent).

    Oh, and signed.

No im saying either do something about it or dont be so outraged at it. Tons of living things die in tons of cruel ways every day, but if you sit around and mope about it youll do no good. Action is key for believing in morals. I dont believe signing a petition on the internet is action at all. Its the internet for one, and theres millions of petitions for good, bad, stupid and smart reasons, but ive never heard of any internet petitions working. In fact, all i hear is how they dont work.

I respect life, meaning if i kill an animal itll be for a reason, not something random and senseless. But if i see an animal being killed for another legitimate reason, i see no difference and dont believe its something worth interfering with. They fish with dogs because maybe what theyre after is attracted to them and nothing else worked, maybe? Im sure theres a reason to them using dogs as opposed to deer or some other animal.

Well, I think that not accepting this kind of thing IS action already, it is not concrete action that sets the laws, it is the general acceptance of it, many animal rights laws have been set because people didn't want it to happen, not because some Green Peace guys went and beat the shit out of people who torture animals.

It's quite common sense actually, if let's say out of million, nine hundred thousand people don't see animal cruelty that bad, what you think would happen when there is a goverment answering to that million? Would you think that they'd act against peoples general interest?

Is the shark Korean or something?

    hahah sorry I had too

But anyways, dogs brains are more developed than a fishes, Im pretty sure they even feel emotions, although not nearly advanced as ours. More over the dog seems to be alive, which is terrible...

Dogs are like animals friends over here in America, so it horrifying to see that...
