Adam is a proper metaphor for the first human, so I don't see anything bad about it.

Its NOT the search for the first male human ie "Adam".

It's a puzzle from ~10 000 samples of DNA around the world from which you try to find a common ancestor pattern.

Then you compare that to the samples to see what current samples are most like the common ancestor pattern and from that you guess what region the "DNA ancestor" came from. Talk about a shitload of things that could go wrong.

With only 10 000 samples my bet is that they havent even covered a third of the worlds countries for starters.

Not that I dont think it's interesting but to even imply that it's got something to do with the first ever male human is just a publicity stunt in my book.

since god is not a scientific term.

    You mean like Adam is??

    Quote from RD

theres not much points to knock off from genetic research, unless u dont believe in DNA

Uhh and if my research says 2+2=5 you cant nock off points, unless you dont believe in math?

Promise me RD, never to be a scientist, stick to making kick ass maps...

Eh who am I kiddin, youd be a great scientist I'm just cranky because I cant get hold of a X800GTO2.

Mawbise you are dumb as a brick, that I'm sure.

I never pitched "Search for Adam" as something scientific, I just said that Adam is a proper term (not THE proper term, THE proper term would be Homo Habilis or some other from the start of the Homo genus) for first human, since they are trying to find the first human and alot of people regardless of religion know about the Adam and Eve mythos, so when they say "Search for Adam" people instantly think that they are searching for the root of humans/first human, or atleast that is how I tought about it.

Thusly, making it proper term for the current situation or rather proper name for scientific show searching for the roots of human, but at the same time dumbing it down for people. Capish?

Mawibse you should watch the show. Ur right tho its not perfect science, thats why theyre gonna collect 90.000 more samples.

I was just reading some entries on the blog on NG about the project, pretty funny stuff:

The Holy Bible is the greatest book ever written, and in it we can find the answers to most of life’s questions. The answers we can’t find, or the answers we can’t understand…well… it’s just not for us to know, at least not now, anyhow. But if you are a Christian and have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart, you’ll have the opportunity some day to ask the Great Creator face to face when you get to heaven, any questions that might still be burning in your heart. Isn’t that awesome?

It doesn’t’ take scientists and a world wide Genographic Project for us to understand the origin of the human race. But I applaud you for your efforts and for helping through the physical evidence of science to prove what God has already told to us in the Bible in Genesis 2:7, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

God called the first man to ever walk the face of the earth, Adam. And from Adam’s own body, God made him “an help meet” and Adam called her Woman. After the temptation in the Garden of Eden and the first sin, Adam named the woman that the Lord had made for him, Eve; because she was to become the mother of all living. As punishment for their sin, they were cast from the Garden of Eden and Eve began to bear their children. There it is… right there in the Holy Bible… Adam and Eve were the father and mother of all living mankind and from those two, all the people of the world were born. And yes… that includes red, yellow, black, and white.

The Bible tells us that a river flowed out of Eden to water the Garden and it parted into four heads; The Pison, which encompassed Havilah; The Gihon, which encompassed Ethiopia; The Hidekel, to the east of Assyria; and The Euphrates. There it is again… right there in the Holy Bible… The dawn of mankind began in the Middle East where modern day Iran and Iraq is. For two thousand years, our ancestors inhabited the land in and around that part of the world. But that all ended when the second Adam known as Noah, was spared from the Great Flood that destroyed every living thing on the face of the earth.

Noah was responsible for repopulating the world one last time. His three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, began their journey from Mt. Arat, where the Ark landed after the great flood, and from those three, and from that mountain in Turkey, Noah’s three sons and their descendants repopulated all the corners of the earth.

Is there a friendly bully? Besides, I like badmouthing God, because all his followers are weaklings, what is the worst that can happen? Some Priest tries to kick my ass because I said God sucks? It's so easy to kick Popes ass that I'd let my little sister do that.

It's actually pretty decent when referring to the history of some ways of life and geographic locations mentioned in its stories. However all the bumbling explanations of the world around us fall flat. Just like you can read about the Wizard of Oz and know that Kansas exists and so did the Depression.

Well, the true official view of Vatican isn't that clear yet, there have been announcements and columns tossing this subject around.

As for news item I remember seeing was that some Cardinal from Vatican distanced their view of fundamentalist views of evolution having no room in christian world, and said that Darwinian theory of evolution and Genesis are "perfectly compatible" if the Bible were read correctly.

As for how the Universe came to be, he clearly stated his opinion that God was responsible of this and it didn't create itself.

The Italians took this statement as a rejection of "Intelligent Design" from Vaticans part.

I think it is a smart move, since we can clearly see that just mere faith don't cure diseases nor will it take you to work better than modern automobile.

When the dumb fall, the smart must help them up and guide them to the right path.

Today NAS (National Academy of Sciences) and NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) are forbidding the public schools of the State of Kansas to use their copyrighted science educations standards manuals because Kansas has decided to teach "Intelligent Design" as a viable alternative theory to evolution. In order for the public schools of Kansas to continue teaching the official science programs the State must rewrite its proposal.
