Does anyone have an idea as to how the Xen textures were first made? Any guesses?

Anyone know a website that I could look for information on?

These are the types I am interested in remaking:

    Espescially this one:

I think it always looks like the inside of a human with a microscope.

But try to make it from scratch.

heh.. had quite some fun doing the redesign of xen for nightwatch. unfortunatly nw died when hl2 came out.

heres a shot of the xen remake

made a few textures out of sponges, mushrooms, cellular images, diseases and painted a lot directly in ps. heavily depends on the sources and what you do with it with ps.

    st0lve:

Yea that's what I'm trying to do.

So far it looks like my best method is Clouds -> Find Edges

    Sa74n:

    Wow that's amazing for HL1.

Did you make that all yourself?

Haha do you mean HL2 versions of Xen textures?

Sa74n: NW still looks extremely sexy, it is incredible sad that it seem to have died out.

they should've just focused on releasing a hl1 and not a hl2 in my opinion, a lot of people on the NW team now doesn't have complete work. Satan and adam really come to mind, they did some _amazing_ work.

NW isn't officially dead, is it?

That'd be real sad news. I remember that DarkTruth died out. At that point, only NW was left over as being a real promising one for me...

Now they're saying that they're focusing on the HL2 version and potentially stopping the HL1 version altogether.

    Illogical.

I'm with ferret on this one. I dont see the point of them stopping the hl1 version and wasting all the work. Oh well

Same here. It's a shame. I surely would have played NW, installed HL1 again.

I'm sure most of us would install HL¹ again just to play it

I'm telling you, they're turning Nightwatch into Diakatana.

Same here, I'd install HL again to play NW. But, I still have HL installed so skip that first part.

    I just hope they'll continue...

So they have actually gone to source properly now? Such crap, it'll never see the light of day now for sure, like you said it should be a HL1 project.

I notice you lot are on about reinstalling HL1, it's never left my computer, it's HL2 that went out of the window because Steam is bollocks.

It was a little more complicated than polishing off a few maps. While there was a good amount playable (Adam's stuff especially), there was also a lot that wasn't (err, mine, among others). I'm not really exactly condoning the act of throwing the work away, but you have to understand that staff turnover was absurdly high and not much was getting done with HL2 sitting in front of everyone. It's like telling someone to keep watching black & white television when a High-Def widescreen is sitting next to him.

    Hmm, that's understandable, CJ.

So, what's going on right now then? Is the port getting along fine or...? There's not a lot of news on the site these days...
