It was kinda expected, but that doesn't make it a single bit less revolutionary. As far as console controlling goes, Revolution takes the jackpot in originality. And as a long time console fps hater, and the main reason being the controller, my fps game catalog for revolution might just get bigger.
But I'm just bit curious, from the moment they announced that revolution can play old nes, snes, n64 and GC games I was thinking, if the controller is revolutionary, which means that you have to use your whole body to control revolution games, how would that control scheme translate to old games with a pad, would I have to wave my left arm to "run" on super mario and at the sama time twist my face to jump and wiggle my leg to duck?
I'm still pretty confident that it would be cool if you could attach your DS to the revolution somehow to play the old games, since that controller doesn't seem to be that good for playing snes games.
-
Pretty much what I expected
Im a tad sceptical, but also quite excited about it
But I'll wait until I actually see some demonstration of it
-
sameting here mazy but its not really what i expected. however im confident this will be damn cool with fighting etc.. thinking that you could actually make a punch move or slice someone with your "sword"

I'm so hyped about games like die by the sowrd on Revolution, or games like Oni and Thief.
But I just can't comprehend the next-gen consoles, I don't think that we are going to see alot of straight ports like we are seeing right now, Xenon being the only "normal" console that resembles the old generation the most, PS3 being the multicore fuckhead with everything different to everything done ever and it is just made to make the developers life much harder, and the last but not least, the Revolution whose control interface is just out of this world makes it impossible to make a straight port of a game from platform to platform.
Is this the end or something?

I know its a promo video so should be taken with a pinch of salt, but check this out for some "demonstrations" of the controller in use...

My initial reaction was "WTF? One handed? Bugger all buttons? Eh?!", but having read a bit about it, watched the video, and considered how it could be used for different games, I'm pretty keen on the idea. I wouldn't like to have the revolution as my only console, but paired up with something more orthodox it could be a very fun thing to own.

Or you could turn the controller 90 degrees to the left and voila, you have a NES controller.

rather like the n64 controller :x
-
From what I saw of the old renders of E3 the revolution had 4 GC controller ports at the back, these are by far the most comfy controllers I have used, and are easy to use on all previous Nintendo, maybe least so the n64, but NES (and no doubt SNES) games are easy to play on Animal Crossing.
There are enough buttons for the n64, so if they ARE GC controller ports I saw, it'd be an easy solution to using older games on the Rev.
-
Yeah, if you could put in the GC controller or somehow use the DS as a controller (which nodoubt will have alot of connectivity just like GC and GBAs) playing the older games will be a breeze.
Just watched the videon on Gamespot about the Revolution controller, and if I understood correctly form the horrible Japanese translators mumblings, Nintendo has already designed (or is designing) a more conventional controller interface that you can hook up to the Revolution controllers expansion slot, as for why you have to plug it in to the expansion slot like the analog stick is beyond me, they could have gone with the Wavebird or something similar.

Good stuff...
I'm finally pretty confident that Revolution is a good competitor for the newbies, Xenon and PS3.
Just talked with my cousin and we have both made up our minds, Xenon and Revolution will sit on both of our shelfs. If my prediction about Die by the sword type gameplay on the next zelda game and the outcome of Metroid 3 I'm just not going to touch any other console.
-
Yeah, glad to see Nintendo still keeps on innovating. I hope they make enough money so they can make something fresh and innovative the next-next-gen too.
-
gah

weird...
-
Oh sweet, if that is what it will look like, Imma buy one straight off, looks almost like a GC controller, my fav!
-
No... Zeox's post is IGN's mock-up for how it might look hooked up to a 'shell' (in the form of a GC pad)... the actual controller is the TV Remote-looking part. Apparently you can swing it around, and there was some fishing game too, I can't wait to see if it lets you swing it as the sword in the Revolution version of Zelda.
-
Now only if Nintendo would steal these ideas

really? hmm.. didn't read the article well enough then.
I'm still confident that nintendo will make it work very well, and i'm exited to see how it works out in the end. it's an interesting consept, and if anyone can make it work, it's nintendo.

Aye, that lightgun attachment looks mint...
Anyway, notice how if you turn the remote to the side, the d-pad and the small-case a and b buttons resemble the GameBoy Micro...
