how do i get it so my texture will be illuminated even if its very dark like night time.im sure its a combination between somthing in photo shop and a vmt file but im not sure what and i don't know where to find out. if anyone has any info let me know.

First off state when engine you're using

I'm going to asume this is HL2. In that case I do not know cause I havn't looked into the shaders. In unreal 2 though there is a thing called 'self illumination'. I'm pretty positive that HL2 has it too because you see it in some models that have glowing features such as eyes. So look for something along those lines. Also its probably an alpha channel texture over it with the color you want. Again though, I'm not positive on this.

If you talk about HL2 you need to add "$selfillum" 1 in the vmt.

The illumination map can be the alpha channel in your diffuse map.

So you need to make an alpha where white will be 100% self illuminated and black not illuminated at all. So if you got a few windows or lights you want to "glow" you need to do these details bright in your alpha and the rest black.

when i do an alpha channel the way i know its usually to make a see through layer and in that case when i create it its red. is there another alpha channel that im not familiar with or do i just use the red one and change the levels to make the detialed spots dark red and the other spots just delet?

So you need to do this for Half-Life 1?

If so there is a bit different approach.

You need to have it both self illuminated and see-through?

If so you will need to make another vtf with either the opacity map or the self illumination map as a separate file.

Good you got it figured out

Looking cool even tho it's a bit too bright perhaps.. and there seem to be shadows in the illumination map which kinda makes it a bit wierd in some places. Other than that its nice.
