    I messed around with a concept by Adam Anderson. Our Drawing Guy @ UAC:Warfare ( http://atanderson.q4dev.net/index.php )

    http://home.arcor.de/fieslings-place/conceptlifty.jpg

Maybe I will make the model subdivided and skinned some day. I wanted a yellow/reddish desptopBG. So I've thrown Mr.Lifty into a 3d scene...

I like it, apart from the lensflare.

around 40% of the guys i showed the image disliked the lens flare effect. i wonder why. its made with a 3dsmax plugin and should be very realistic.

maybe people like lens flare effects in games or films. but not in "stills".

hey michi (still know me ?)

the idea behind the picture is pretty cool imo, but the lens flare is too exagerated as well as the "heat haze".

i would suggest you using bloom and leaving other effects aside (if you find a good renderer maybe add 'some' DoF+heat haze).

just my two cents, but please cut lens flare

Just make it a bright light, and try and make it look like that Halo sun effect. That would look better in my opinion.

Not quite related to your render, but I've never understood why lens flares are so ubiquitous in games. Are we meant to be looking through a camera all the time, or experiencing the game first hand? I would've thought the latter, surely. I suppose the reasoning is that it "looks cool"...

    good point defrag.

for this render its a camera view so its ok.

but for games you are right. there should be lens flare only if you look through sniper scopes or binoculars.

well for my little pic its ok. it fits well for my desktopbackground needs. :

maybe i will skin the bot and try some stuff im messing around at the moment.

    Game-artist.net competition (UT2004-styled weapons):

1573 polys. As you can see, the handle isn't really seen ingame, so the horrendous stretching isn't worth fixing.

I really like the style snipa. The scope looks a little awkward in how it attaches. Did you use a real world reference? Texture that bitch up
