    I think it's one of those "bellyripperknifes" ( I call them that ) that is used to open the belly on butchered animals, since it reminds me of a similar knife I got at home : http://shatteredminds.net/weapons/knifes//knife17.jpg

    The guys who installed carpet in my house a long time a go used a large one as shown in the render.

    Uh, no. It's called "vesuri" and it's used to cut branches from tree trunks, it's about size of an axe. It's also used by firemen for clearing doorways etc. Traditionally used by drunken Finnishmen to kill each other with.

    Edit: "pole pruner" might be the right translation, except there's no pole and you hack the branches instead of sawing them.
