Well, like reno, I'd see lots of new maps, having played the old set of maps for like two years, I kinda know where the enemy is, and I just run through the maps and shoot/nade the usual camper locations, and get few kills, so it's like a factory work more than fun play.
And DoD maps are bit too linear for todays standards of a war game, it should do for the new style of big open maps where there are lots of different ways to get different places, I guess that is the major grief on my part, well actually that is the major grief on ALL HL mods, every single one of them are piperuns.
But, ahem.. skdr, you beautiful man, you make DoD maps don't you
Maybe you could make a old vet happy and make some more open maps than the current ones ![]()
I have retail HL2. If DOD:S has good hitboxes, i'll buy it. The whole reason i dont play CS:S is because of the damn hitboxes. About half a second after i round a corner some guy with slow reaction times gets a bs headshot.

I'm not really waiting for DoD:S to come out.

Quote from HipshotFortress Forever will never be a good replacement for a real TF, its just like those other Fortress' Unreal Fortress, Quake 3 Fortress etc etc, they just don't hold the same quality when it comes down to game play and I'm sure valve will announce a TFSource some time, maybe after Aftermath.
I wish I had your amazing ability to review a game without playing it.
Dod:s is not something I care mutch about even tough I will try it out since I bought it already anyway.
But there are so many WW2 fps games already and none of them gave me any interest really.
I'm looking forward to the Fortress forever mod because I have very good memories to TFC and wel I'm already making a custom map.
So logically I'm also very interested to hear any TF2 news and its taking way to long.
I would almost place a bet that DNF and TF2 will be released on the same day ![]()
I'm looking forward to it, because a ) it's fantastic multiplayer fun, and b ) I've always wanted to create a DoD map but missed the HL1 boat (so to speak) for it.
Uuh, if it cost only 10-20€/$ then i can bought it, damn it looks hot
)
I enjoy DoD, if it looks good and is like DoD, I will play DoD:S.
Yeah I am looking forward to playing DoD again. I do appreciate the focused gameplay as opposed to the wide-open incohesive play styles that seem to be popular these days.
But frankly those screens they posted in the Steam update not too long ago were pretty laughable.
I've had a good break from WW II shooters and wouldn't mind to play a multiplayer one again. But I agree with ginsen, the screenshots were embarassing and I don't know what gameplay changes they will make which would justify a purchase.
yeah i don't know what the deal was with those recent screens, but personally I am very excited about it. I haven't released an official dod map in over a year and I can't wait to get back to it once the source version comes out. Sure, dod may not be for everyone anymore, but I still play it with on a really good server with a great community of players. That's more important to me than newer gameplay tech in recent games like BF2 etc. Sure, newer games are great, but I'll always be interested in DoD.
Anyway, the beta has been pretty limited, but the sound design and the physics are pretty cool, more interesting than in cs:s (IMHO) even though I actually like CS:S cause I hadn't played CS in so long.
I haven't seen the screens you guys are talking about, but my guess is that they look prettymuch like the old DoD since I have seen some screens way back.
But I think DoD:S release is taking so long because they are not making a port they are prettymuch making it again, so I guess they are going to change some of the graphics too.
But I don't care about graphics, DoD is all about the shooting, and the hiding and capturing flags or blowing things up, and that is what makes it so great. All I want is better vegetation to hide my MG.
Are the latest screens the one featuring the sourced up dod_donner? (Probably spelt that hideously wrong, it was the re-make of thunder anyway
)
As I didn't think they looked that awful, admittedly a little plain looking and by no means mind blowing, but still solid looking enough for my eyes.
But I did enjoy playing DoD, just hoping that playability converts over to the source engine and the return of bandages wouldn't go a miss!

I now have faith.
