So who else is waiting for DoD:S

I have been patient, impatient and everything in between, waiting for DoD:S to be released, I was a long time member of several clans back in the day, most fondly remembering back the days of beta 1.3 before they changed the whole concept, but after that I still was in several clans, even had one of my own

DoD:S might just be as important release as NS:S will be to me, but how important is it to you? Discuss!

You mean the mod or the actual TF2 that Valve makes? Since I don't think they are going to make a source port from TFC because they are doing the TF2.

Fortress Forever is my most anticipated mod. I always liked Day of Defeat, but a remake of TFC for Source by people who actually know was TFC was all about pushes far more of my buttons.

Ill play it when its released, but I couldnt possibly care less about it.

Day of Defeat was fun to me a very long time ago, but I think Ive moved on.

Quote from Dod forums, to clarify some retail dod:s questions.

    Quote

Retail version (store bought) version of HL2 does NOT include DoD:SIf you bought a copy of HL2 in a store, you do not automatically get DoD:S once it is released. This goes for all versions, including the collectors edition.

DoD:S is only available for free on release to those who bought the Silver or Gold packages via Steam.

What! This is an outrage! I paid $XXX for HL2! I demand DoD:S!

The store versions of HL2 were duplicated, packaged and distributed by Vivendi who had the publication rights for HL2 and CS:S only. These rights did non include DoD:S which is why it is not availble with the retail version.

How do I get DoD:S when its released then with a retail/store version?

Retail users will be able to add DoD:S to their Steam package for a nominal price when it is released. As of yet we have no word on what that price will be. However, it won't be the same price as a full Steam Silver subscription and probably a lot less than buying it as a retail game.

But DoD:S is a mod! It should be free!

DoD:S is not a mod, in fact DoD hasn't been a mod since beta 3.1. The mod was bought by Valve and as of 1.0 (when it was available in stores), it became a commerical, stand-alone product. It is now a game in its own right and not an add-on.

DoD:S will cost something, but it can be bought separately.

    Ooh Kosmo likes DoD :)

DoD:Source is awesome, atleast the ~5months old beta is. There's some HUGE stuff going on behind the scenes. DoD will change, bigtime... The release is actually closer than you guys think

    Can't wait!

Can't say I really care all that much TBQH. But it's gonna be nice to see what they did with the original maps.

As huge as the transition from beta 1.3 to beta 2?

In csnation, they say that DoD:S will be released sometime around september..

DoD was a really great game once, back in the times with beta 1-1.3b. After that it was still an ok fun mod, but nothing really special.

I will wait with judging DoD:Source until I have tried it. It might be a game which I am going to use some time on, but it is also very possible that I will drop it after a few hours of play.

Well if you rated that transition huge, then yes. DOD:S will change alot gaming elements and I'm sure it will get mixed reviews from oldschool DoD players...

    To me, september sounds unrealistic.

I really enjoyed DoD, but I want the game to have evolved from then. I'm not particularly excited by DoD:S simply because it is basically a port, just as CS:S is basically a port. It wll be fun again for a while no doubt simply because I haven't played it in so long and due to new graphics and sound effects, but unless they have really changed a fair amount in terms of gameplay I don't see much to get excited about. I don't want ported maps, I'd far rather they built new ones. The scope of the original DoD maps wasn't particularly huge, and if they are much the same I can't see it living up to BF2's "the enemy could be anywhere" sort of gameplay.

i enjoyed dod for a while though i got kinda bored, it got very redundant just like every other game, ill probably play it a bit and then stop. im looking forewards to fortress forever also, i got into tfc a little late and played it some but didnt play it enough, it was a true game about gameplay and not graphics, this mod should have both

It's not a "port" anymore. Just wait and see The maps are still the same old good ones rebuilt from scratch but there will be new maps too, not sure about the launch maplist tho.

Fortress Forever will never be a good replacement for a real TF, its just like those other Fortress' Unreal Fortress, Quake 3 Fortress etc etc, they just don't hold the same quality when it comes down to game play and I'm sure valve will announce a TFSource some time, maybe after Aftermath.
