Well the word "viking" is used often loosely, it usually means scandinavian (norse) people of the viking age, the histroy of the word has not been yet unraveled since there are alot of sources it could have come from. Some jackass english novelists use it to describe what many these days would use for pirates, but out of the rare occasions, the two things are completely different words.

Sorry, I was in a mod team making a viking mod for Warcraft 3 so I had to learn these things

But anywho. I'll be checking PV&K2 out.

We still are looking for a couple of good, dedicated mappers, or even if you would like to come aboard for temporary help.

Please PM me, or email me, or go to http://www.pvkii.com and register there and PM me there.

We are looking for 2 mappers who can create medieval, viking, and pirate themed style maps, and who can work from reference photos and sketches to create maps for Halflife 2.

We are still here while some mods have already passed on. Help us out by making something that will be remembered and played!

    Check out our media at

    Thanks Mapcore Community!

Kosmo is right but i type down this aswell since maybe not all knows what a norse is.

quote:"Abstract: The etymology of the word viking has long been discussed by philologists, yet no definitive explanation has been presented. The author suggests a possible derivation from old Swedish vika (turn, shift; old Norse vikja) meaning the shifts of oarsmen (and also the distance at sea between two shifts). "Vikings" would then be "men rowing in shifts".
