Some interviews i did with Mazy, Blazeer and Stratesiz.

It was for my website that was HUGE back then

    And they are unedited btw.

    Anyways enjoy.

    Mazy 2001

    Hi there Mazy !

    HI SPELLBINDER!

Let me start by congratulate you on a great map like de_legato

omg plz u, ur so kind ))~

How old are you and where do you live ?

Im 17 years old, and i live in the evil country of Denmark (ewww)

    ;o~

    I think Danmark is cool

hah, most people from the outside world do, but infact it sux very bad

    in my opinion that is

So for how long did you work on de_legato ?

well, its a kinda stupid question, because the general map took about 2 weeks to make, but it was folded out to about 3 months due the fact that telnets (the 1337 guy that made the textures ), was kinda busy all the time, so that kinda slowed it down. But 2 week in building it, 3 months getting the final textures ~

now you stoled my next question wich was gonna be, did you do your own texture or did you buy them

ok lets skip to the next one instead

    :DDD

    omg plz okay

what tools did you use when you did your map ?

Well i use Worldcraft 3.3 to make the maps them self. I then use Wally to make the texture files. And i use photoshop to make the textures (i made some of the textures i might add )

Oh so you did some, is it hard and timeconsuming to do your own texture to a map ?

i mean they are pretty small to me

well, the textures i do is generally pretty simple stuff and easteregg things, so its not really timeconsuming ~

    * Mazy pets slepbiner

Ok, have you done any other maps for CS or any other mods or was de_legato your first ?

lol, i've made ALOT of maps. More of them are rather silly though. You can check them here: http://www.mazy.net/maps.htm ~pimping

Nice thx for the link . Are those for CS only ?

Most of them are, but there are some for Half-Life Deathmatch as well. And some for the mod which im working for, Hostile Intent

I know about thoose, they are pretty cool mods.

Have your map reach any audience yet ?

(side note: what u mean exactly? )

Like have you got lots of feedback on them and does ppl in generall (cs-ppl) knows about your maps ?

oh, yeah. I personally consider myself to be one of the better mappers in the HL community, and i have gotten lots of response from people that really love my maps. So yeah. And i've gotten some job offers as well i might add ~

    Nice.

Ok lets get to the core of this interview

Have you ever heard of PODBot ?

I have heard of it yes

Have you ever tried it ?

yah, i've tried it. But im not really a big fan of bots for CS ~~/me hides

So you never use bots when your doing your maps ?

nope, im more of a playtest with people kinda person ~

Do you think it would be any benefits (to ppl that can't get playtesting their maps) to use bots to check the gameflow ?

    And layout

well, then you would have to make waypoints themselves (because bots that make thier own waypoints and stuff, s0x baaad in a normal map) But yeah, could work

Do you think you get any help in pimping your maps when a waypointer pimpings his waypoints ?

it might help a little, but generally i dont think its gonna help very much. If your map sux, not even waypoints can help it. But good playing maps with waypoints is always a plus

Now im thinking of opening a forum for waypointers and mappers to come togheter would you consider that a good idea? So they can meat and get into a cooperation of the map.

(omg you said meat, ur making me horny babY! http://www.mazy.net/maps/de_meat/DE_MEAT0000.jpg !!!)

    but sure, great idea

would help alot of people who r searching for waypointers

i would have to edit this i think , or not

    lol

    IM MAAAAAAAD!!!

Where could ppl get hold of your maps and escpecially de_legato ??

    * Spellbinder is holding down Mazy to calm him down for next answer

    well, my site would be a good idea ( http://www.mazy.net ) :DD~

ok i can't think of anything else right now, is there anything you would like to add? The floor is yours for 5 sentence any advice to new mappers maybe ?

well, my advice would be to never be affraid to release something that you think people might not like. I pretty much say "Fuck everybody, i like this", and if you're going to have your own style, you're going to have to do it that way. Else everything will be the same

Ok thanx for thoose words of wisdom

haha, np. Im so clever ~ (j/k, im an moron)

I would like to finish this wit telling you i really like your map its one of the best out there and i urge the readers to go get it, it has great gameplay and very nice texture !

Ill thank mr Mazy for giving some of your time to me

    thx !

hihi, np mr spellibinder plz (¦)

    Blazeeer 2001

    hi there Blazeeer

    hi Spell

Let me start by congratulate you on a great map like de_bright!

    well thank you a lot.

For how long did you work on that map ?

hmm... actually. It's kinda funny how I started it. I thought of test to see how easy it was to make de_dust. Then after some weeks of work I started to realise that this can be something diffrent. And so it all began. The layout was done after a pretty short time, maybe 3.5 weeks

Then I had to retexture it a lot. So totally maybe 2.5 months

So you started out wit de_dust ?

no. I meant to see how easy it was to make a de_dust like map

but the map got its own charachter and I liked to make it to something new.

ah i see. What kind of tools did you use when you made it ?

I used Photoshop for the textures. QuArK for the map and Wally to make all textures into a WAD

    Good tools.

    OH cut

    i make a cut here

    )

    k

    i forgot

    hehe

    hehe

    ok

How old are you and where do you live ?

I'm 16 years right now and I live in the little viking country Sweden

i like that country how long have you been mapping ?

hmm.. maybe for 3.5 years. But seriously maybe 1.5 years. The first 6 months I didn't practically know how to make a playleble map.

    takes time dosn't it

Have you done maps for any other game besides CounterStrike

    ?

yes. specially when you are as stupid as me. I didn't read any tutorias at all the first years of mapping.

    Ö

I've made quite a few HLDM maps. And one dod map

    not anything else to mention

Cool have get out to public ?

    get it

Cool have you get out it to public ?

nah. not really, I sent in the dod map to the dod team. But I guess the map was to much "deathmatch".

and about CS I've sent in about 4 maps

    to that cs team

    Hope de_Bright will make it

    hehe

I don't know if Im even gonna send it in

Have you ever heard of a thing calledPODBot ?

yeah.. those are the best bots in the world )

    Hehehe

really good to test out my maps with.

and they are really skilled as well

How long have you been using PODBot ?

Not really long maybe a couple of months only. I used to like realbot, but now I love podbot much more

Did you use PODBot when you developed your maps ?

During the development of Bright I used the podbots, with your waypoints by the way )

Was it any different in making of that mape compared to the ones where you didn't used PODBot ?

*** ChanServ invites you to join #SmokeThis

yeah. It's much eaier to see how the map plays, how good the layout works. The layout is probably the thing I'm most happy with in Bright. Thx to Podbot

Sounds great! Is there any gain in having someone make the waypoints for you to the map you are working on ?

yes it really is, you helped me a lot making those waypoints, really much actually. Else I wouldn't been able to make bright the gameplay it has now

Im glad i could help So you would say ther is a defentive advantage for mappmakers and waypointers to work side by side ?

yeah, huge advantage. If this would be more popular we wouldnt need to see those maps that looks really good but plays like shit.

Did you notice any difference in the pimping of the map? Im thinking of when the waypointer tries to pr his waypoints he also mention the map. Was that noticeble

yeah, a bit. I got more responce on the map when you said that you had made waypoits for it, but it would be good if more people started to realise how good podbot are.

I agree on that! Now im thinking of opening a forum for waypointers and mappers to come togheter would you consider that a good idea? So they can meat and get into a cooperation of the map.

actually, that would be an awesome idea! that would make the maps so much better, no low quality layout anymore. Really good idea.. if there are enpugh waypointer out there

    *enough waypointers

There is just no one to take care of them

ok then you should open such a forum

ok i can't think of anything else right now, is there anything you would like to add? The floor is yours for 5 sentence

hehe... well to all mappers that read this. You can look forward to at least 2 big WAD files from me with about 60-70 textures in each ) thats about it ) and really thank you spell for waypointing DE_Bright for me, that was a good thing to do

    Your welcome.

and let me finish by this

    no wait

    one more

    k

Where could ppl get hold of your maps and escpecially de_bright ?

de_bright will be released with the CsCentral mappack, which will be released in next week and I will proably release the de_bright WAD file on which you can get on my site http://blaz.cscentral.com

where you can find all my other work, such as more wad files as well

Thats good, i would advice the readers to put this page on favorites wich i would have done if aint allredy did

I would like to say before we stop that i really like your map and i think its one of the best made maps out there a true favorite of mine:)

Thank you very much for giving some time to me

thank you, I'm glad I got to do this interwiev, remember you have a part in bright's layout

    Stratesiz 2001

    [18] hi there Stratesiz

    [18] hi sir

[18] Let me start by congratulate you on a great map

    [18] thanks

    [18] de_pasta is a real beaaty

[18] For how long did you work on that map ?

[18] Well I've been working on it for a looong time now

    [18] oh about 7 months

[18] I that what is normal when doing maps ?

[18] uhmm... no. I would say 1 week - 2 months would be normal for others

    [18] make it 3

[18] wow so you spend a lot of time on it then, what is the angle of the map, the storie?

    [18] story

[18] well it's basically about a fight between two mafia organisations.

    [18] sounds cool

[18] The restaurant is a meeting place for one of the mafia families

    [18]

[18] What kind of tools did you use when you made it ?

[18] World Craft, Wally and Paint Shop Pro basically

[18] the basic tools for mapping

    [18]

    [18] yeah

[18] How old are you and where do you live ?

[18] I'm almost 18 and I live in Finland next to the capital Helsinki

[18] cool im a naibourgh then

[18] Have you done maps for any other game besides CounterStrike

    [18] /me hugs

    [18]

[18] nope... I've only done two maps in my entire life so far

[18] whats the name of the other map ?

[18] cs_futurcom would be the first one

[18] i know that map! Did it reach a lot of ppl ?

[18] It's a map based in an office building

[18] Hmm.. I think so It was included in the old CS central mappack.

    [18] nice

[18] Have you ever heard of a thing calledPODBot ?

[18] I actually got fanmail for it which was really wierd

    [18] yes

[18] do you use it ?

    [18] When testing maps yes

[18] How long have you been using PODBot ?

[18] Hmmm ever since ya made the first waypoint files for de_pasta lol

    [18]

[18] Did you use PODBot when you developed your maps ?

    [18] with pasta yes

[18] Was it any different in making of that mape compared to the ones where you didn't used PODBot ?

[18] hmm... not really or I don't think so. It was like 1.5 years ago when I started to work on FutureCom ;D

[18] So it's kinda hard to compare

    [18] k hoew about this

[18] Is there any gain in having someone make the waypoints for you to the map you are working on ?

[18] yes... It makes the playtesting of it easier. It gives a first check on the gameplay.

    [18] of maps that is

    [18]

[18] So you would say ther is a defentive advantage for mappmakers and waypointers to work side by side ?

    [18] yes

[18] Did you notice any difference in the pimping of the map? Im thinking of when the waypointer tries to pr his waypoints he also mention the map. Was that noticeble ?

[18] although bots can't fully replace human players in playtesting it's useful

    [18] hmmm

    [18] kind of

[18] Now im thinking of opening a forum for waypointers and mappers to come togheter would you consider that a good idea? So they can meat and get into a cooperation of the map.

[18] I haven't posted any pics with action

    [18] k

    [18] yes I do

[18] ok i can't think of anything else right now, is there anything you would like to add? The floor is yours for 5 sentence

[18] Oh ... mappers I know usually beat the crap out of regular cs players when playing

    [18] hehehe good one

[18] therefore I state that mappers are 1337 cs players

    [18]

    [18]

    [18] Are you done soon Ö ?

    [18] yah

[18] Where could ppl get hold of your maps and escpecially de_pasta

[18] Well, my site mainly and cs central. I've seen the beta of pasta on several other mapping sites as well though. Their info is rather inaccurate though

[18] People seem to think that I've made like 5 maps or something

[18] ok ill link thoose site in the end of this interview

    [18]

[18] I want thank you very much for you time to me and for a great map its a real beaty and any one that didn't try it out i will urge you to do so !

[18] Its one of my favorite for sure

[18] nice to hear that :D

I had this site called Spellbinders Waypoints, and it had everything about Counter-Strike like maps, waypoints, script, news, and just anything you could think of, with forums and stuff, and i didnt want to make a mapforum since there where better map forums elsewhere (mapcore and c-s.net's mapforum and others) but i wanted to bring mappers and waypointers togheter since i my self had great cooperation with mappers as a waypointer and also to have something interesting about some of the mappers i promoted on my site.

I think basically that is it.
